HAPPENING NOW: The jury says it wants Merchan to begin the instructions with the part about how they are supposed to consider the evidence and draw inferences -- including the metaphor about how if the ground is wet in the AM, you can infer it rained over night.

I'm sure that you have been politely corrected already... I must reiterate that similar to the country to the south of Canada, we have regional dialects and vocabulary. Football is not hockey, but football is either Canadian Football or American Football, and like in the United States, actual football is soccer. I know of no usage of "dry blower", but "hair dryer" is common.

And a broken nose is only a two minute minor if the offender is on your team.

Please boost, since I have low follows on this account...

Does anyone know how to enable WPML translation of footnotes inserted using the block editor? I can't find reference to them anywhere.

It seems to me that the Canadian government would be far less likely to get into jurisdictional overreach if the Provincial governments were actually to do their fucking jobs and stop blaming the feds for everything that is wrong in their own provinces.

The rental crisis is only partially a federal problem (looking at you, CMHC), but the provinces have been entirely absent in presenting solutions. Want to stop federal intervention? Do something about it yourself!!!!

So the barrel of monkeys holding Truth Social had decided its value is 6.8 billion dollars. Truth Social is estimated to have 5 million monthly users. I wonder if each of those users realize that the company views them as a potential income stream of at least $1,360.

I'm not interested in being monetized. I still have a Facebook and LinkedIn, but I really appreciate being on #Mastodon where I am not pushed to buy or subjected to acquisition approaches every second post.

Turns out I was off by a factor of 10. Apparently there's only a half million monthly users

Seeing a comment about Poilievre's $1725 per ticket fundraiser made me wonder how much of the CPC income is not received as tax-deductible political contributions (which are subject to limits) but instead as tax-deductible business or self-employment expenses (which are not).

This strikes me as a pretty massive loophole in our political funding rules.

And yes, I know that technically our Income Tax rules would not permit the expensing of these tickets, but fraud happens.

@johnefrancis

The Party reports it as a donation received. On the other side, how many of the purchasers of these event tickets are treating it as a political contribution in their own records, and how many are treating it as some form of business expense? I have trouble believing that the people who would pay $1725 for an event are seeing that as their only contribution...

Trying to help get community organization Horizon #Ottawa on Mastodon and to set up the RSS feed for their NationBuilder based site.

Any #NationBuilder gurus know how to find the RSS link for a NationBuilder blog?

This is not a useful response to you, but I'm curious to know if you have any thoughts about #civicrm vs #nationbuilder. I'm starting to think about our CRM needs at work...

I'm beginning to hate the world.

Patriarchy continues to have a hold, and the violence it perpetrates has an outsized effect on women who risk taking on leadership.

I didn't always agree with her, but I am sad to see France Belisle go.

@johnefrancis Isn't there a preference setting in Google Assistant (or maybe it's in Google home) for your preferred music player?

Martin,
@Martin@mstdn.bdms.ca avatar

@johnefrancis @esg So does it work to choose the "Other music services" and select Tidal?

I was curious about the option to switch, as I am also very unhappy about Spotify's platforming of assholes, but I'm not so sure jumping to a Jack Dorsey owned system isn't that much better...

Have the fires in Canada from last year stopped? We down here in the lower states haven’t heard.

Martin,

@SergKoren
No. Some fires have extraordinarily been burning all winter in Alberta. It's not good, given there is also no snow pack.

    People are gathering at the Elgin police station to protest the arrest.

    Apparently, according to Ottawa Police, you can block streets in the downtown for weeks in a "protest" against public health regulations, but you can't gather on an out-of-the-way, dead-end, industrial street in support of striking employees.

    Journalists should respond by reporting not only on the answer they got, but all of the follow-up questions they would have asked if they were dealing with someone with integrity wanting to run the country.

    The story needs to constantly be on Poilievre's lack of transparency.

    New instance, new #introduction

    I'm not new to Mastodon... been around long enough to feel the loss of my toot history as I change to my self-hosted instance.

    I'm largely interested in sustainability and community, and generally follow people who will help to expand my awareness and optimism. The second seems somewhat hard to come by these days. I also addictively follow politics, which doesn't help the optimism.
