Here the latest news on the Journal of Biogeography editorial work stoppage and mass resignations, from Twitter/X:

I along with 95% of #AssociateEditors have now #Resigned from @jbiogeography. @WileyGlobal never responded to our invitation to discuss #BetterPublishing.

Very sad to see this outcome of a once highly respected journal. But hope we all learned a lesson from this and stop submitting to such journals.

And here a blog post summarizing the whole matter and what has been going on in the background since my last update:

https://journalofbiogeographynews.org/2023/08/28/11th-hour-talks-fail/

Also includes a list of other/better journals that we can consider or even prefer in the future.

Let us hope this all was not in vain and we keep up the momentum.

I hope with this resignation we motivate other AEs to have their own internal discussions so together we can make #BetterPublishing a reality.

And here you can read the response of Wiley to all our request (but very disappointing though):

Dear Mastodon community, This is the most recent tweet circulating from all AEs of JBI. I also resigned and pass this info on to you:

I am resigning as Associate Editor at JBiogeography because WileyGlobal has not reprioritized access & journal quality over profit, maintaining barriers to equity & publication - particularly for and peers from the

So far, 2/3rds of the AEs have resigned, with more on the way following a month long work-stoppage. Our final straw was the unjust firing of the EiC @MNDlab by @WileyGlobal. Wiley has continued to be dismissive of our concerns https://journalofbiogeographynews.org/2023/07/14/betterpublishing-jbiogeography-i/

News on the Journal of Biogeography publishing situation. We (the Associate Editors) wrote an editorial on the situation and name all our concerns especially of researchers from the global south and ECRs. You can read it here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/jbi.14697

And please spread the word if you like to support our case!

Ironically, Willey turned down our request to publish this OA for free... Somehow that says it all.
