3D Design tool for needy kids, the search continues.

We have old laptops to loan out to kids from poor backgrounds. They don't have internet. 2D design we have covered with #inkscape, and the laptops run #linux well (but not Windows). What I need is a 3D design program. Suggestions welcome.

InCameraNet,

@vik Blender can do most things you could want out of a 3d modeler. It can make movies as well as it can prototype. Blender BIM can even generate architectural plans. https://www.blender.org/

InCameraNet,

@vik @torsten @DeltaWye I've never met a 3D modeler with a shallow learning curve. The easiest modeller I've encountered is SketchUp but it's closed source. #FreeCAD has modest system requirements and might fit the bill. https://www.freecad.org/

InCameraNet, to windows

Windows 10 may be my last #windows operating system because #Windows11 is #enshittified spyware now. #Linux and #opensource people, how do I join you? What is your favorite #desktop distribution? I'm hearing good things about #linuxmint?

Watching Independence Day (1996) now and it seems strangely innocent.

Pre-9/11, pre-twenty years of murderous invasions* and holding child prisoners in Guantanamo.

I still love #BrentSpiner's wacky scientist, more than a touch of the #DenzilDexter to him:

*I am very aware the USA committed war crimes before the year 2000, please don't ReplyGuy me on that shit.

InCameraNet,

@Jyoti Lindsay Ellis has a fantastic video essay about how very pre-9/11 Independence Day (1996) was and compares it to post-9/11 War of the Worlds (2005). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KioF1sTQFtE

I usually sand my pieces to a gloss but I am so sick of that I tried finishing a set of magnet sliders with UV resin. I sanded the surface up to 600 grit and then cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol. After curing, the top coat instantly delaminated when I pulled the masking tape off the edges. Chucking these into the fail bag.

Twitter's new sign is up.

It's held in place by either sandbags or water bags-- vaspider said they have worked with such bags before at concerts and probably don't walk under it.

Especially on a windy day.

(Something is so vicariously embarrassing about how bright it is. Never get so rich that no one can come collect you and save you from humiliating yourself. )

InCameraNet,

@futurebird These pictures could very well be future deposition exhibits. To show that some things were reasonably foreseeable.

Going to try posting on Mastodon more.

InCameraNet,

@adamconover We are gathered here today to remember the birdsite.

Striking Ron Perlman on the studio exec who said "The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their houses":
"There's a lot of ways to lose your house.... One of them is figuring out who the fuck said that.... And where he fucking lives." https://youtube.com/shorts/EcdvuV81F_M?feature=share

InCameraNet,

@KevinCarson1 (double checks the imminent lawless action test from Brandenburg v Ohio) Ron Perlman's speech here is constitutionally protected and also morally correct.

How many of these #introduction things do I get to post? I freeze whenever I have to formulate a response to "tell me about yourself."

I notice a bunch of new folks following my feed here. Welcome!

Was there another meltdown at the bird site? What brings you?

InCameraNet,

@heidilifeldman I'm not just new to your feed, I'm new to Mastodon. Twitter DDOSed itself so I reckon the foundational code and hardware the site runs on is collapsing. Meanwhile, Threads ostensibly runs on fediverse code so why not join the real thing. I'm rebuilding my feed and yours came recommended.
