I want Firefox to succeed more than ever and I support Mozilla finding better revenue sources than search engine default sales, but I do not support a $7M salary for its CEO.

I canceled my recurring donation to Mozilla because I need that money more than Mozilla’s CEO needs that money.

If there is a direct funding option of developers working on Firefox, I will happily reallocate that money. Send me links.

@CommissarMatis @Jeremiah do you have any idea what silicon valley engineers cost? It's a mean of about $250k (all in, including health care, etc) per engineer. Removing the CEO role entirely would fund at most 28 engineering positions.
Most of the CEO compensation is likely performance-tied, meaning value on the balance sheet, not market share.
If she keeps bringing in the bacon, keep paying her.

Flux,
@Flux@wandering.shop avatar

@Jeremiah @ebassi there's a great deal of misogyny baked into the claims of "excessive compensation". She's earning at the low side of compensation for a corporation with $3/4B in revenues, most from deals brokered by the CEO rather than direct product revenue.

If I rent it from you, sure.
And now you're going to quibble between renting and licensing and copyright and I have no patience for it.

Retirement party prep work pretty much done. The raclette melter emerged from the workshop over the last couple of weeks. That wheel of cheese will get chopped in half at the right moment, the power will go on, and we'll get it melting.

Today was my last day at . Four years where I've never been better aligned between my interests, my abilities, and my responsibilities. I'm incredibly proud of how far has come in that time.
What's next? After nearly 40 years of being paid to write software it's time to retire and spend time moving whole atoms instead of just electrons.
I'm certain there will be software - it is the most tractable medium I've ever worked with - but now it will be to scratch my own itches.

@thepoliticalcat Doesn't want to pay for a paint shop. Wants to re-use the cool sheet metal he made for his rockets. Yeah. That's not going to make for a good truck.

Flux,

@thepoliticalcat Yes, it's working out really well to not regulate "small" trucks the same way as automobiles!

@smellsofbikes Yep. Someone wrote 1" treads instead of 1' treads.
And when the contractor asked about it, someone said "Read the fucking drawing" instead of listening to the guy and so the form guy did exactly what the drawing said.
You know that's how it went down.

A gentleman I know needs cataract surgery. The doctor at the eye clinic told him the waiting period was between 18 and 24 months. But the doctor said: “I can do private, next month, at a cost of $1500 per eye.” Thank you. for destroying our healthcare little bit by little bit.

    EXPLANATION: if you replace "baby" in this junk meme with "unborn fetus", you get a Screaming Jeezus Person's idea of a pitch-perfect anti-abortion argument to use on a pregnant atheist.

    It's easily countered once you understand the "parachute dilemma" is a brain-dead metaphor for abortion (because to the SJP, an unborn fetus is a baby.)

    Just ask yourself how you answer if you (being pregnant) face probable death if you don't abort. It's not hard!

    Flux,
    @Flux@wandering.shop avatar

    @cstross CW threat of self-harm.

    I fail to see how this is a winning argument.
    Definitely one of those arguments that only works for the already-brainwashed.

    cstross, (edited ) to random
    @cstross@wandering.shop avatar

    My answer to the baby/parachute problem:

    I pull my ripcord and let the baby die.

    Its god—if they exist—will know their own, so baby goes to heaven ("Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius").

    If god doesn't exist—baby's trying to blackmail me, so fuck you, baby.

    That's the same reply I'd give an adult evangelist who pulled this stunt: they chose to die on that hill, I didn't impose a choice on them. I admit I may be flying my ASD freak flag here.

    (EDIT: It's an abortion alegory.)
