The Black people you interact with on here know people, intimately, who lived through the 1960s Civil Rights era. Black people who had to pack everything they'd need on a road trip (food, toiletries ,etc) because stopping in certain towns after dark was unwise. This is stuff that happened in living memory

So odd how the movement for equal rights in America for Black people became Black history and not American history, by and large.

White people bring up slavery and how we should be over that by now but rarely mention how 100 years after the abolition of slavery, Black people were still less than fully recognized citizens of the US.

If you don't know who Fred Hampton was or are unfamiliar with his story, I encourage you to watch Judas and The Black Messiah.

Long story short, Hampton was a Panther who established free clinics, after school care and free meals for his community. Worked to unite the races and to dismantle capitalism.

For his efforts, the Chicago PD and the FBI murdered him in his home at the age of 21.

The press and the media are supposed to be the 4th estate.

The watchdogs of government.

The intelligence wing of the people.

Corporate media is a problem, yes, but the press as an institution are not.

But because so many people remain ignorant to the role of the press, I've no doubt that we will be without them in total sooner rather than later.
