I'm confused and speechless. Tried to run updates on my #Windows11 machine, a lot of them threw errors. Ran the Windows Update troubleshooter.
In the five minutes the troubleshooter was open, this laptop I've had for just over eight months but that I haven't used all that extensively went from full battery to 5%. And the troubleshooter seemed to not be doing anything. #Windows#Laptop#Tech#Technology#Update#WTF
dans Firefox, trouver un champ où taper du texte et y mettre votre curseur (p.ex rédiger un post dans Mastodon);
faire [WIN + point] pour faire apparaître la popup "émojis" de Windows;
dans cette popup, taper quelques lettres pour trouver un émoji.
Est-ce tout se passe comme attendu dans cette dernière étape?
So as the designated tech guy of my family I've been drawn to Linux more and more as I continue to play with pi and small servers. I would like the Linux users opinion though.
Currently I'm split between migrating from WIN 11 (which is running about as well as dog in deep snow) to either Drauger os, POP os, or Fedora 38 for a lenovo gaming laptop and I can't really decide on which ship to jump to as of now any thoughts? #linux#pc#fedora#windows11
I am so disappointed and enraged by current state of #technology I am considering living in the woods.
#Windows11 is forcing me to use #OneDrive. I don't have an account so I apparently cannot disable it, so I don't have a desktop.
#Spotify is constantly playing PREVIOUS episodes of podcasts after current one is finished. And searching for specific episode is almost full time job.
#google is forcing me on #android to use their apps which are utterly shitty
#Windows11 users - have you ever run across a file or directory that you can't access, and can't change permissions on, as administrator? If so, how do you fix it?
I'm trying to transfer files from an old laptop to a new laptop using rsync in cygwin, and I used my standard rsync -avz approach, which works great in Linux, but apparently totally bollixes up #Windows.
The directory it created looks like it has correct permissions, but when I try to open it, access is denied. I tried the below suggestions from various Internet forums, and they claimed success but didn't solve the problem - and the robocopy actually made a second cursed directory!
C:\Users\Lisa\Backups>cd X250
C:\Users\Lisa\Backups\X250>cd Personal
Access is denied.
C:\Users\Lisa\Backups\X250>takeown -F Personal
SUCCESS: The file (or folder): "C:\Users\Lisa\Backups\X250\Personal" now owned by user "LISA-T14S\Lisa".
C:\Users\Lisa\Backups\X250>icacls Personal /grant Lisa:(oi)(ci)f /inheritance:e
processed file: Personal
Successfully processed 1 files; Failed processing 0 files
C:\Users\Lisa\Backups\X250>cd Personal
Access is denied.
C:\Users\Lisa\Backups\X250>robocopy Personal Personal-fix /COPYALL /SECFIX /SEC
[stuff happens here...]
C:\Users\Lisa\Backups\X250>cd Personal-fix
Access is denied.
I'm going to try the rsync again without preserving permissions ( -vzrlt ) but I'd love to be able to access - or at least delete - these directories!!
The #Windows11 Task Bar is such garbage. I plugged in a second monitor and was wondering if there was a way to get my pinned apps to appear on the secondary Task Bar.
...Toggled an unrelated setting off and back on while poking around Settings, and boom they all suddenly appeared.
I wanted to give it an honest go, but given that this is clearly an amateur knockoff of the much superior Task Bar from previous Windows releases, I may as well look at third-party options lol.
Hi @JenMsft I just wanted to let you know that in Flight Hub, clicking on the entry for build 26100 is loading the page for build 26090 instead. Are you also able to reproduce this? Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to any input you may have. Thanks. #Windows#Windows11
I just took delivery of a laptop that came with #Windows 11.
After going through setup I felt abused and violated.
Then, doing anything on this top of the range machine was slow, and despite my answering 'privacy' to every option, it appears that every click in Edge is being sent back to Microsoft, slowing the fastest machine I've ever used.
Having installed Ubuntu 24 side by side makes this even more apparent. (I still want #Windows11 for testing).
« #Microsoft has announced a new #AI-powered feature for #Windows11 called 'Recall,' which records everything you do on your PC and lets you search through your historical activities »
I see posts calling for folks to write/email/call/smoke signal/wire/semaphore their representatives about the security fuckery of Windows Recall.
I'm more of an "act locally" guy. Email your place of employment's heads of legal and IT stating your concerns, and send them this article. Hell, throw in your local schoolboards and universities to boot.
