#Pensando ancora (fin troppo) alle #fotocamere dei #NintendoDS, non posso fare altro che riconoscere quel pattern, secondo molti moderno ma che in realtà appunto va indietro anche di tutti questi anni, per cui #Nintendo deve per forza introdurre un peggioramento nei suoi prodotti dopo aver introdotto un qualche miglioramento… 🐞
A livello hardware non ci sono strani #particolari: le #camere hanno la stessa risoluzione (640×480, #VGA praticamente), ma quelle del 3DS dovrebbero essere più accurate; e la risoluzione dei display delle due #console è rispettivamente 256×192, e 400×240 / 320×240, quindi meglio sul #Nintendo3DS. Però il #software…
Sul #DSi, tutte le foto sono gestite e salvate nella loro risoluzione massima e sempre in 4:3. E la fotocamera offre #funzioni fighissime, alcune oggi mainstream ma all’epoca avveniristiche (come i filtri facciali che oggi sarebbero definiti “di Snapchat”), ed altre che giuro di non trovare su nessuna #app fotografica #mobile, solo su apparecchi professionali (ad esempio, la composizione live, cioè la sovrapposizione di immagini opportunamente scontornate non solo in post-produzione, ma direttamente sull’anteprima di #scatto). ✨
Il 3DS fa le #foto in 3D, molto figo, e può registrare video, ma… un sacco di quelle funzioni fighe mancano, ci sono giusto pochi filtri visivi banali, e una funzione di graffiti (equiparabile all’editor per smartphone predefinito medio) solo in post-produzione, non anche live. Niente compositing, niente roba. In compenso, la regolazione dei livelli è presente, al contrario della #fotocamera non-pro media per smartphone (GCam Lite merda), c’è l’autoscatto, e lo zoom. Però lo zoom è un po’ di pessimo gusto, perché già di base l’immagine appare fin troppo zoommata… perché? Perché, a quanto pare, l’anteprima è tagliata, perché su uno schermo 16:10 non ci entra il framebuffer della #camera 4:3 senza bordi neri. Però le foto sono salvate comunque alla massima risoluzione, e l’album permette di passare dalla visualizzazione scalata a quella intera con lo stick. Però, se si va in modalità graffiti, si può operare solo su quella porzione tagliata dell’immagine, che dopo le modifiche sarà salvata… per qualche motivo, in 640×320, che è 18:9, quindi tagliata sempre molto sopra e sotto ma ancora non alla scala nativa. Le uniche #immagini perfettamente scalate al display sono le schermate dei giochi o del menu home, e qui direi che è il minimo. 🔪
Insomma, dati questi #dettagli, non è scontato dire quale delle due app di #fotografia è migliore, e probabilmente una conviene più dell’altra solo a seconda delle situazioni. Per fortuna, su un #3DS moddato si possono avere entrambe, e infatti io me la gioco così. 📸
I wonder, why does #VGA use synchronization pulses, and not a pair of sawtooth signals for controlling #CRT deflection directly? Then the display could change modes faster (nothing to resynchronize), and a non-sawtooth signal could be used to implement a vector display if desired.
There must be a reason why #IBM didn't do this. Anyone know why?
This is a heckuva journey through the history of #TheGameAwards (back then #VGA). Mild warning: it started in 2003 on the Spike TV network, where it was basically an excuse to heavily sexualize women, shit on the industry and gaming stereotypes, and occasionally talk about games.
The modern Game Awards have their problems. But wow has Geoff Keighley dragged them out of the gutter.
@nixCraft The VGA port on this 13-yo Toshiba laptop is still going strong! I had to add an HDMI converter (which horks a USB port to power it) for the new big screen, but it works! Oh, and I despise HDMI. If that makes me a Luddite, then so be it. 😀
#dosgaming#retro#pc#vga I finished Lost Vikings - starts boringly easy, gets fiendish and makes you throw out your model of a level solution multiple times before you settle on the winning one. Great gem that I'm glad I finally tried out in 2023 for the first time.
#Dreamcast using #VGA video output with stereo sound using an external speaker. One of the most badass openings in video game history. The recording adds a blue tint that you wouldn't see natively.
I found that screenshot already, @JuliaMinamata ... it's the title screen from Los Templos Sagrados. Standard #ega colour palette, but looked to me like #vga at first glance. More usual in EGA hi-res, as you say, but this is 320x200. I love this kind of thing.
Now that I'm taking some time off from work, I finally got around to building the final module of my #RC2014 kit -- the Pi Pico #VGA Terminal module. This one is part of the Zed Pro Pride Kit, so the PCB is pink(ish) rather than the standard dark blue color. Eager to try it out with a small 7" LCD panel that I have. Steady hands and a hot iron, my friends.
