One of the richest men in the world is now folding because of pressure on his advertisers, whatever you think of what he originally posted or is doing now. After instituting serious censorship, he's now gone to grovel to #Netanhayu. #value4value is the future but it can be corrupting too. ads and working for corporations means you at least feel the pressure not to piss them off, if you aren't actually told what to say or threatened. but when you can see a big bump in your support and it's very concentrated from a few people when you cover certain topics in a certain way, you'll want to keep doing that. audience capture. it needs to be small amounts, automated and widely distributed.
@adam I've always wondered why crypto, why this same system #value4value cannot be built on top of the current monetary system and get ride of middle men's as much as possible

I wish we could have something like a decentralized network of artists posting #ccmusic into a feed (or pool) that people tag as LIKED and DJs can play and talk about. Maybe limit artists to adding only one song per week. Rebooting radio with humans not algos deciding what gets popular and becomes part of the zeitgeist. I hope @funkwhale can eventually replace #Bandcamp, and incorporate #value4value.
Folks still spending too much time worrying about how Meta might monetize the Fediverse and not enough time figuring out how to make the Fediverse financially sustainable. Is the "plan" to live off donations forever? Is it to hope that everyone self-hosts? If so, how are they supposed to gain that knowledge, and how are systemic inequities factored into this "plan"?
Or is the "plan" to tone-police everyone onto managed hosts that obfuscate capitalism behind a virtuous layer of abstraction?
yes, I wish I had all that. who else is saying this? @adam calls it #value4value but you probably block his instance and he thinks crypto is a part of it. I think the soon to rollout #FedNow is more likely. #ActivityPub is an attention layer for the net. pretty obvious we'll get a payment layer eventually.
