I am rather mystified by all those Americans who believe that a #Trump victory will somehow cause Americans to rise up, overthrow the corrupt system, and install a Glorious Socialist Utopia.
A far more likely result is that most white liberals will hunker down and try to get on with their lives while the country gets more and more oppressive while marginalized communities try to fight for their survival like they have already done for decades.
Seriously, I see no reason why a fascist takeover of the USA should play out any differently than their counterparts in 20th century Europe. Even if there is an anti-fascist uprising, I don't expect it to be any more successful than they were in the Spanish Civil War.
A Georgia appeals court on Wednesday officially stayed until at least October the racketeering case alleging Donald Trump and others conspired to illegally overturn the results of the 2020 election — making it impossible for the case to go to trial before November's elections. #AureFreePress#News#press#headline#GOP#Politics#uspolitics#uspol#Trump
Michigan used to be a safe bet for Democrats, but Trump’s 2016 campaign did a number on changing the state’s electoral question.
And today, Michigan is somewhere where small shifts can mean a lot. Low turnout with this voter group, extra enthusiasm with that one – small things like this add up in a big way.
"Georgia's Court of Appeals paused court proceedings Wednesday in former President Trump's state 2020 election subversion case while it reviews appeals, including whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis can stay on the case."
@AxiosNews reports: "The pause in proceedings makes it unlikely that the Georgia case goes to trial before the November election."
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul delays traffic congestion pricing plan for New York City.
The Hill quotes the governor: “Let’s be real: a $15 charge may not mean a lot to someone who has the means, but it can break the budget of a working- or middle-class household. It puts the squeeze on the very people who make this City go: the teachers, first responders, small business workers, bodega owners."
Many people in Europe are better informed about US politics than Americans. They understand the peril of 2nd term for TFG. NATO alliances would be shattered, much of Ukraine -handed over to Putin...
Will President Joe Biden’s new border measures be enough to change voters’ minds?
AP reports: "Polls have found immigration and border security to be a top issue this election year and one that has been seized on by former President Donald Trump and his campaign."
In a shock result, #India Prime Minister #Modi will likely have to seek a coalition government as projections indicate they will likely to fall short of the votes needed for a majority.
This could have significant policy implications in a country which has recently not been our favorite and a regime which has been secretly trying to assassinate dissidents of their regime within the US and other allies’ territory.
"In his first public testimony since stepping down from [U.S.] government office at the end of 2022, Dr. Anthony Fauci on Monday fended off a variety of attacks from Republican politicians at a fiery hearing called to discuss lessons learned during the pandemic."
NBC News reports: "Fauci has emerged as one of the people most vilified by supporters of former President Donald Trump, with many blaming him for the pandemic based on a wide array of false or misleading claims. Calls to prosecute Fauci for unspecified crimes have become common on the right."
Local news is crucial to democracy, and it's disappearing — according to a new book by Steven Brill, excerpted in @Semafor, approximately twenty-two hundred papers and their websites went out of business between 2005 and 2021. That's created a vacuum into which "pink-slime" sites have poured. Brill writes about these sites that present themselves as legitimate publishers but are created to boost specific candidates and secretly financed by partisan funders, Democrats and Republicans alike.
Federated news publishers include @AxiosNews, @Semafor, @BloombergGreen, @19thnews, @ConversationUS and more. You'll also find many fantastic lifestyle publishers there, such as @Smithsonianmag, @cntraveler, @outside, @Kotaku and @TheRoot. We're working on a better way to separate publisher and curator profile details so you can easily find what you're looking for; stay tuned. The upside-down American flag goes mainstream as a form of right-wing protest.
NPR reports on the trend after an inverted American flag flew outside the Virginia home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito in January 2021. Many conservatives displayed the flag in a similar fashion to protest Donald Trump's conviction in the hush-money case.
President Joe Biden is expected to issue an executive order that would shut down asylum requests to the U.S.-Mexico border once the number of daily encounters hits 2,500 between ports of entry, according to sources.
Surprise, surprise surprise. Justice Alito officially refuses to recuse himself from January 6 related cases. He blames his wife for all the flag incidents and says that no reasonable person could conclude that he couldn’t be impartial.
Alito is lying about the so-called flag incident. Of course it doesn’t matter because he and the other justices on SCOTUS have set themselves above oversight. https://youtu.be/alAn-gyiXNY#USPolitics
