The floating branch has turned into a nice photo op -- they feel much more safe on it than on the bank, and don't immediately slide into the water as soon as I step outside
This is my favorite picture from the St. Kitts/Saba trip! We saw many sea turtles over the course of the week, but a few of them were super relaxed and went about their business even as a big group of bubble blowers approached. This beautiful green turtle came right up to me to check me out and I managed to get this lovely image. I hope you like it as much as I do!
The world can sometimes make us feel boxed in. If you start to feel down, just follow the example of this turtle: keep your head up, and take one small step at a time.
With that head shape, you may wonder if the Amazon Mata Mata was sent too many times to the corner as a child. In any case, this freshwater turtle is found in the Amazon basin and river system of the eastern Guianas. It is an ambush predator that prefers standing in shallow muddy waters, where its straw-like snout can reach the surface to breathe. With a head resembling fallen leaves and a shell looking like a piece of bark, it lies and waits for unsuspecting fish or invertebrates to pass by. When they do, it sucks them into its large mouth by quickly opening it and creating a low-pressure vacuum effect.
🐢 ❤️ 🇲🇻 - enjoyed taking underwater photos on my OM-1 and it’s AOI housing over the last days, always nice to broaden your experience, and I love reef life.
For the #ArtAdventCalendar, a print I made for #FolktaleWeek23 Sea prompt. It’s a linocut of one of my favourite mythological creatures: the Zaratan, here in my print a giant sea turtle disguised as an island. There’s a small campfire on the supposed beach, and a sailing ship from the age of exploration nearby.
“There is a story that is told in all lands and throughout all history -
A bale of hatchling sea turtles head for their permanent home … the sea. Here in Florida we are fortunate to have many species of sea turtles nesting on our shores.
berlin has a small population of yellow-bellied sliders or cumberland sliders living in the piano lake close to potsdamer platz. they actually have been there since at least 2014.
