Since my post-reboot fitness routine has a lot of cycling and running I figured maybe I'll add swimming and try for a triathlon. In the past I was amazed at how much more gassed swimming made me feel. I figured it was because it is such a full body exercise or inefficient technique due to being very rusty. Looking at the breathing technique issues brought up here I think it could be a bit of that too. When I started ramping up my exercise last year I latched on to the 20-40 grams per meal number. One thing that didn't make sense was the notion that the body doesn't use much of the >40 grams for muscle building. I follow some one-meal-a-day body builders and it is clear that they are. This is a deep dive into more recent research. TL;DR: for muscle building/maintaining efficacy all that really matters is eating enough protein/essential amino acids. Timing, sources, etc. is more of a marginal difference at best. 10 mile fasted Zone 2 run didn’t go as well as my 9 mile one two weeks ago, even in earlier section. I was woefully unprepared for how much more sweating I did this time despite comparable weather. I was much closer to feeling bonked too. When I got home; an additional 20 minutes of walking later, I did a blood glucose test that clocked in at 109. So I’m thinking of adjusting hydration with G-Zero before switching to adding pre-run or during the run fueling. #running#training#fitness

When I’m doing training ramp ups I like to do two harder weeks followed by an easy week. With long distance race training I sync that up with the mileage fall back week. That was last week. This week is ramping it back up. Added 5# to me leg day exercises and had great HIIT cardio after. Have plans to do my 10 mile run this weekend on the way to half marathon distances for next month. #running#fitness#training
The 5 mile treadmill run wasn’t as bad as I thought. It also gave me the opportunity to watch my vertical motion and form a bit. Apple Watch estimated distance is off by a bit, or the treadmill is, or both. A 10:00 mile pace didn’t register done on the watch until 10:22. #running#fitness#training

Buying a training/exploring/smart watch just over a year ago was probably the smartest move I've made in regards to my own health in a long time. Because that has made me a lot more active through gameifications and analytics about my health and fitness. I have registered over 400 activities and biked, skied, ran and walked over 4 454km.

I played a psych game for my 9 mile long run, longest I’ve run since early November and near the highs I haven’t run in a decade. To compel me to stay in Zone 2, fat burning zone, I went out well hydrated but fasted on an out and back run path. I pretty much nailed Zone 2 except the penultimate mile that I intentionally ran way faster. I felt strong the whole way and had plenty left in the tank. The estimated VO2max keeps going up too. I’m very stoked about how well this experiment went and how my training the last month has unfolded. #running#training#Zone2Training#fitness
A recent photo of my sketchbook, still training with ballpoint pen directly, a cruel training. But I am beginning to get a better ability to imagine perspective grids without tracing them, and I can even begin to plan full-page compositions. It takes a while to build these new skills, but they are worth it.
