It's very simple, it's a theremin walkman. One hand/antenna controls the speed of the tape and the other hand/antenna controls the amplitude. The video is one of the early working prototypes.
Some thoughts:
It's a shame that you can't do this project today. Because in the past you could find Walkmans very cheaply (1-5 EUR) at flea markets or even in the trash. For the theremin part you only needed two antennas, some resistors, one transistor and an attiny84. I found so many Walkmans that it was even possible to organize workshops.
Anyway, capitalism has to reproduce itself and therefore I will find new material. In 15-20 years I'll be doing projects with current smartphones or the Pis and SBCs you're all using at the moment 😀
I found an old funny video/documentation: Thereman (2013-2014) It's very simple, it's a theremin walkman. If anyone knows where to get this in Europe, I'd love to hear about it.
What began as a fundraising site has now been retooled to function as a means by which thereminists, theremin enthusiasts, electro-musicians (and everyone else for that matter) can explore Juliet Shaw’s legacy.
We are on the verge of being able to donate the Juliet Shaw Collection to a major institution. Once ownership is transferred, we may be limited in what we can display online, and, there is even a chance that the site may have to come down.
So there’s a bit of urgency here. If you’ve yet to visit the site, now is the time:
It has always been Sandra’s wish that people be able to discover for themselves the materials devoted to the life and career of Juliet Shaw. You can now see and hear more than has ever been available.
#Stylophone have recently announced some unusual new products, including the Stylophone Theremin.
I'm feeling the pre-post-retro-futuristic design of the #theremin and the built-in speaker. Plus, it looks like there's plenty of room in the case for mods and bends. The $110 price point almost seems like a good deal. https://stylophone.com/theremin-pre-order/
I've realised that I have been here since last November, but have not yet made an #introduction !
Well, here goes.
I'm Phil, born 52 years ago. My partner since 2005 is Hayley.
We are both gardeners but semi retired now. At home, Hayley does the outside gardening and I look after the #houseplants.
My days tend to consist of #gardening in the morning, playing #Theremin in the afternoon and #StarCitizen in the evening.
Between us we have 5 children, 5 grand children plus one due.
So life is busy!
I do not know why Japan decided to gather a couple hundred people and have them play "Ode to Joy" on theremins hidden inside matryoshka dolls, but I am here for it:
@vampirdaddy@swan_tower It's the same with the #recorder. Two is terrible, unless the players are really very good and can match pitch perfectly. But three or more are usually fine if the players are just moderately competent. In this case, the large number create so many constantly changing interferences that it becomes very pleasing. Having read a bit about the #matryomin (single-antenna #theremin inside a matryoshka doll, a commercial product), this choir may actually play some characteristic #formants in addition to the base pitches to simulate human voices.
Hey there, I'm Finnley, the anthro dusky dolphin making waves in the digital realm 🐬🌊! With my vibrant green eyes and webbed hands and feet, I'm all set for aquatic adventures. Beyond the sea, I'm an IT Tech.
Electronics, Raspberry Pi, Arduino - these are my playgrounds where I love weaving together tech magic 🧙♂️🔮.
Music is my lifeline, and I play the theremin with my trusty Moog Theremini and Claravox #theremin, accompanied by synthesizers that fuel my sonic adventures 🎹🎵.
But when I'm not gliding through the ocean, you'll find me grooving to #synthwave beats and fully embracing the radness of 80s culture 🎶🕺. The synthwave culture, with its neon vibes and vaporwave aesthetics, adds a kaleidoscope of colors to my world 🌈.
Don't forget to check out my YouTube channel, "Finnley's Audio Adventures," where I showcase the hidden gems of my ever-expanding record collection 📀📺.
And hey, I've been a #HamRadio operator since 2008, because there's just something mesmerizing about those airwaves 📻🌐.
As a non-binary individual, I'm proud to be me, and I'm eager to connect with fellow enthusiasts who share my passions and interests 🌟🌈. So, let's ride the digital and analog waves together and explore all the awesome things life has to offer! 🚀🌌 #Furry
My long time musician friend and neighbour gave me some of his 'musical toys' as he called them.
Among them was a Japanese made Theremin that he "couldn't get going, but maybe I could make some use of it."
I did some digging and found out it's a Gakken Theremin Premium, made in 2008, sold for roughly $100 USD. I found the English manual pdf and got it working! Definitely finicky to calibrate but eventually I was able to coax around 3 and a half octave range out of it!
Similar in look to that of the tVox Tour, you wear a grounding strap on your left wrist, controlling volume, and pitch on the right. It has only one tone, but it has a 1/8" out jack, which I'm excited to plug into my modular envelope follower and see what happens!
@Jyoti #theremin
That would be a great shame!
I'm still learning theremin and have been doing so for about six months. Gradually getting there and enjoying more playing now than scales etc.. 🙂
But I do love my theremin!
