If their system declines your credit card, it still places a pre-authorisation for the full amount into your bank account – thereby reducing the balance of your account for the full amount. The authorisation is for a whole month and so you cannot touch that money for a month.
I called and spoke with them and they told me there’s nothing they can do on their end and my bank won’t investigate unless they take the money.
Right, so I just put in an order, selected their invoice option at checkout and was able to transfer them the money via IBAN in seconds. Wish I’d done that from the start.
Phew! That was way harder than it needed to be.
(Again, I’ll update you all if/when they get back to me let me know the issue with failed transactions resulting in preauthorisations is fixed. Until then, if you’re going to pre-order the #StarLabs#StarLite#Linux#tablet, I’d highly recommend you pay by invoice.)
I am of the opinion that if we keep waiting for the “perfect” #Linux tablet, it will never exist. The specs of the #StarLabs#StarLite are head and shoulders above any other Linux-dedicated #tablet thus far.
I plan on purchasing one once I see a product review, and if it’s as good as I hope it will be, I hope that Linux users will support it with their WALLETS so we get more and better devices like this.
Hey, fellow #ADHD and other other #Neurodivergent types: Someone in our office showed me the Remarkable 2 notetaking tablet and it looks amazing, but is crazy expensive. Any real world reviews for me? #tablet#epaper#TechReview
Hrm... just some few years ago, a friend and neighbour of mine asked me, for what i use my (way back then arbitrary) Tablet.
Well, i actually used that particular tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 with bluetooth keyboard cover - and some weirdo apple bt magic mouse) for a short while (about half a year) as an actual desktop replacement.... Because i was lacking on any hardware otherwise.
But, to be honest, after i had at least some laptop back up and running, that thing was gone instantly.
Still, there were uses for the tablet right outside the uses of a frickin desktop or laptop computer...... Like:
Checking emails..
Checking in to social media stuff (g+, fuckbook, early-fediverse, you name it)
Checking news.
Watching some videos.
Play some game.
Reading (digital/digitalized) books.
And what? ;)
What are your actual uses for a tablet class device novadays?
I still would use it to read some ebooks in case i'm residing in a clinic or something like that...
When I was leaving home going on this #holiday#trip I forgot my #drawing#tablet pen :blobCat_tear: I cannot draw well using fingers on touchscreen so I don't have any real way to draw here. Whole week! I don't remember when I had so long break in drawing. Weird feeling.
"Für mich ist Informatik ja vor allem Word, Powerpoint und Excel."
"Nein, das ist es nicht."
"Ich weiß, für Dich ist es 'Programmieren'."
"Nein, das gehört zwar (irgendwann) auch dazu, aber das ist es bei Weitem nicht allein. Es geht um Daten, Kommunikation, Logik, Strukturen, Algorithmen ..."
"schon gut, schon gut. Aber das braucht ja niemand."
🤷
This is hilarious. There was a chip in phones from four years ago that was built SO well that it was used long after newer chips were released. My buddy @tkbay and I were JUST joking on our podcast this Wednesday that we'd probably see that chip get used AGAIN in another phone or tablet this year.
If you are the type of person who already takes a lot of handwritten notes in notebooks you’ll probably love it. Everyone else should probably skip it.
I am the type of person who already took lots of handwritten notes in notebooks, and I am beyond thrilled with this.
@masukomi I use a similar product: a Boox Note Air, with Lamy Al-Star EMR stylus (works out of the box) - though you need to be careful to buy the one with the correct nib for scratchy paper-like "screen protector" for e-ink notebook. Boox devices are Android-based, and you can install Google Play on them.
I've been reflecting on the purpose and place of #tech in my life, and I'm coming to the conclusion that my technology needs to stay at home, at a designated place, for designated uses. That means no #smartphone , no #laptop , no #tablet , or even an old school feature phone.
#Desktop computer and landline phone. Maybe an MP3 player (still on the fence on this one.) Designated tech for specific uses that doesn't move. And I'm not even thinking a cordless landline. Corded.
1/ By request, I've taken some pictures of how comics look like on my newly arrived #Boox Ultra Tab C #eink#tablet .
I didn't buy it for reading comics, and frankly I wouldn't recommend it if that was your primary goal. Yes, it shows color - but the colors will always look rather flat, and there will often be some ghosting.
