Today's local shop: Duke's Fine Foods, European grocery store in Bells Corners.
They have lots of European imports like Mozartkuegeln, marzipan, preserved meats like salami,
Pepperoni, imported cheeses like gruyere, emmental, swiss, plus local products like butter, baked goods.
Great little shop.

A shout out to my local Mastodon friends. It's the last day of the "Best of Missouri Market" at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. We're going to try and fight our way in though the crowds. They say there's over 130 local vendors this year. I hope to pick up some Christmas gifts and support local businesses.
Had a chance to visit this handicrafts shop (Sabado's on Outlook Drive) in Baguio City when our team from Real Living magazine explored the country's Summer Capital back in 2016. It was a challenge to not bring home so many baskets and wooden decor/furniture.
Boston’s only queer owned bookstore is being displaced… but not for long. Locally owned All She Wrote is moving to 75 Washington St in East Somerville. They are trying to raise $60k to help with the move. Learn more: https://givebutter.com/allshewrotebks
Just learned of a new-to-me restaurant in the Ottawa, Ontario area, "Biryani Walla". Gonna check it out some time. Thebiryaniwalla.com/ottawa-home.html
Co-worker suggested it after I mentioned the biryani at Malabar House in Bells Corners is delicious.

“Despite what companies may want you to think, nearly every issue you encounter while shopping is a result of bad working conditions for retail employees.”
Be nice to all retail workers and all workers all year round and try and be extra nice today. It’s not their fault. It’s not even the local managers or bosses in a lot of cases. It’s the companies.
@TonyStark Shopping can be delightful if you choose small, local businesses. We have a wide variety from upscale to consignment to thrift in my small town, and family-owned furniture stores are in a nearby town. These business owners know that the customer is the reason they are able to realize their dream, and they treat their clientele accordingly. Plus, no self-checkout. Money stays in the local economy. So many wins. I rarely go to the big-box stores anymore. #shopsmallbusinesses#shoplocal
This little delight came home with me, huge wedge of M & M Chocolate brownie. Got some local grown raspberries and strawberries. Some Greek food for later.
Now I need to calm the rage after speaking to bigoted old people. Locals are also raging because the council have bought land in the village to build 39 new homes for elderly and disabled people.
#SFBA insider news: On Thursday evening @Ingurido@cd24@neuralgraffiti and I met for our monthly team dinner. This time we ate at the Tipsy Pig on Chestnut - Great food - You should check it out!
One of the topics we discussed was that we would like to make our instance feel even more regional/local.
We believe that having strong local/regional interactions emphasizes the 'social' in 'social networks'.
So we were talking about custom emojis and the possibility of automatically assigning user roles to users who identify themselves as living in the City, East Bay, South Bay, or North Bay.
The assigning user roles thing will have to wait until we have v4.2 in prod, right now role badges are not being represented in the UI.
However, custom emojis we can pick up again right now!
Please send us ideas for more custom emojis!
We are looking to add one new custom emoji per week going forward.
@Moritz we missed you! Hope you have a safe trip back home soon!
