It is the beginning of a new tutorial series for more experienced developers looking to enhance their skills. We'll go trough all the steps to create a PROPER shmup on #pico8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSx2YHy9Gp8
I realized today that when I lost Twitter, I also lost a lot of the cool indie game devs I was following there (and the updates on their games). And that totally sucks, because I really love to play indie games. Apparently Twitter was my main source for discovering them (sheesh).
Below is a pretty big list of games (with links to them!) that I'm looking forward to. There are SO MANY games on my Steam wishlist that are still being worked on and upcoming (some of these are on itch also, and some have alphas, betas, and demos, I've noted which).
Some of these games are definitely coming later this year, and fingers crossed for maybe full releases of the rest in 2024?
I've thought about video game genres a lot; I'm always trying to determine what makes something a "shooter" or a "racer". It beguiles me when our names for things don't always correctly describe the gameplay. When does a "shoot em up" become a "beat em up"?
Hey all, game announcement time! I've been working on this one since the summer and am excited to get it out there.
PRAXIS FIGHTER X is a fast-paced single stage retro shmup. Dodge bullets and fight off the militarized police force defending a corporate toxic sludge pipeline.
Coming this Friday to itch.io, Lexaloffle BBS, and Newgrounds
We purchased a refurbished Steam Deck and it was delivered today! Very neat packaging, clean and absolutely flawless with no visible scratches anywhere. The carry case feels very sturdy and high quality. Which Steam shmups do you want us to test? #Shmup#Shmups#ShootingGames#RetroGaming
Atari 8-bit has a rep for faithful arcade conversions, and also for them being generally easier than both the originals, and most contemporary ports.
This one bucks that trend both ways. In terms of accuracy it's disappointing; the sprite movement is far too different (and erratic) for the game to "feel" like the arcade version. But this also makes it harder - you don't die any faster, but it's much harder to hit anything!
Okay collective Fediverse Hive Mind, I need your help with a trivial bit of knowledge.
There was a shoot ‘em up from the 80’s or 90’s that had the whole “Japanese shoot ‘em up of the 80’s and 90’s biomechanical” aesthetic.
One of bosses was a classic shmup wall boss. It had a woman’s face in matte metal, until you deal enough damage at which point the mask breaks off and you see the body horror alien thing underneath.
Was it R-Type? Some other shmup? It’s driving me crazy.
Sektori (week 134): 🌈 mode finished and I think we are very near calling the main mode gameplay feature complete (with some caveats about the bosses). Just a lot of iteration left! Not sure what to work on next, I guess I should clean up my notes first.
Have been replaying the Gates of Zendocon on the Lynx (well, Evercade) quite a bit lately, and am very impressed at just how well designed, innovative and varied this game is.
Day 11, got around to adding the first enemy i'll use as a dummy to figure out how I can make them work without issue.
It's an unwritten rule you need a spinny boi as the first drone in a shooter.
Also new player design. #gbstudio#gameboy#gbc#gameboycolor#gamedev#shmup
Day 3, trying to work out how a shooter would function and the scene area size I would need, continued work on the visuals and started working on a functioning HUD 👏 #gbstudio#gameboy#gbc#gameboycolor#gamedev#shmup
