The formerly abandoned Bell Labs building in Holmdel, NJ. At one point slated for demolition, the historic site has since been turned into Bell Works, a multi-use complex that was the filming location for the series Severance.
Finished #TheWalkingDead last night. Entire thing. All 11 seasons. Undecided as to whether to watch the spin-off crap like Daryl Dixon, Fear the Walking Dead etc though - time for a bit of a break from the zombies methinks. One more season to go of #TheExpanse and then that’s done too. Few more episodes left of #Invasion. That still leaves a couple of slots free for additional binge material. #SlowHorses perhaps? #Severance. #Monarch. Ugh. Too many choices.
Whoever suggested #BadSisters on Apple TV: excellent recommendation.
It's an Irish show about five sisters and a narcissist asshole who absolutely deserves to be murdered. The show jumps around cleverly in time, and features an insurance investigator playing Columbo while on the verge of (1) fatherhood and (2) bankruptcy.
Very good.
Edit: I should content warn for some very disturbing content, including psychological abuse and animal cruelty.
I have now, finally, watched the first episode of #Severance, and so far it’s fascinating.
Jumping around in time and perspective.
Endless dissociative hallways.
Only vague hints so far of the dystopic society and personal tragedy that got us here.
The writing for the corporate voice is especially fantastic. Every sentence a faux-benevolent jingoistic disclaimer of liability, a rehearsed façade of care to cover up the distaste.
@montag : it's pretty gripping, although not high brow television. It has a conspiracy vibe to it, and the first season asks more questions than it answers, but it's got some thrilling moments too ! If you can see it, it's not a bad investment, although I wouldn't say it's worth the investment on its own.
Apple TV+ has tons of science-fiction, like #ForAllMankind, #Severance, #HelloTomorrow, #See or #Invasion (on top of #Silo and #Foundation which you've mentioned).
There's something about older #movies and shows (10-40 years ago) that is just different than current ones. The new ones feel sterile, boring, and not really engaging in a way that makes you lose yourself in them. Directing, dialogue and editing is just different in a way that doesn't resonate with me. I can't get into any new show, with very exceptions (#Severance, #Andor, first 2 seasons of #theMandalorian). Everything else is just blah...
