I had a couple classmates that pretended to be vampires back in elementary and middle school. They’d pretend their Koolaid was blood, complain about the sunlight, and bite their friends a lot. Not enough to draw blood, though. I haven’t kept up with most of them, but one guy is a teacher now. He seems pretty normal.

This article by #CoryDoctorow from 2010(!) is more valid than ever. Not just related to iPads but for the whole #Apple ecosystem. You rarely own an Apple device whose biggest value it only gets by accessing the walled gardens Apple has total control over.
It's for #consumers and not for people who want to play with their devices in a #creative way!
My super nerdy kid has decided she wants to spend the rest of her hot summer break creating a podcast in which she teaches parents how to help their elementary aged #kids with #school.
She's all in. First episode recorded, eps 2-4 sketched out.
What comes next?? How do you go from recording to #podcasting? Not looking to make money! Just trying to support her efforts to find her true calling and save other kids from their clueless parents.

What are we doing to our children that around 28% are avoiding #school due to #anxiety?
We pressurise children more & more, make #education a test-based, inflexible activity, stress out those delivering it & then expose them to all sorts of sh*t on #socialmedia..... and then tell them to fail at school is to fail at life.
Is homework beneficial for elementary school kids? Academic Etta Kralovec says it may actually be harmful, taking away from leisure time, creating tension between parents and children, and disadvantaging kids who don't have ideal setups for working at home. For The Walrus, Anne Thériault looked into how schools are now, and if change may be on the horizon. What's your opinion on homework for younger kids?
Last day of #school. The kid's biking all the way home on her own for the first time.
We've been practicing for this day for weeks. She knows the rules, knows how to handle her bike, knows to look out for drivers because they're not looking out for her.
We can do this.
If you are out on the roads this afternoon, PLEASE keep your eyes peeled for happy kids about to embark on the best summer of their lives.
Key finding: spatial analysis reveals value of proximity to schools, with 7.29% decrease on average for each km to the elementary school in the catchment.
Any Canadian Historians on Mastodon? Trying to figure out what institute this crest belongs too. On my Uncles (Mom’s side) sweater circa 1947-1950 most likely around Montreal. Possible Vancouver area, but I don’t think he had moved yet. Possibly military. We have very little to go on, as “Bill” committed suicide in ’77, my Mom didn’t cope well, and burnt a lot of his family papers and never talked about him.

My daughter’s back in school, which means I’m back in school (homework). She’s learning algebra. I took it in the 6th grade with 7th/8th graders. But I forgot most of it.
She was crying when we sat down. She didn’t understand any of it. First I had to learn it, then try to explain it differently. By the time we finished, she was smiling and racing through the problems. That felt really good.

Did you ever have a classmate that pretended to be a vampire or some other supernatural creature? How much did they commit to it?
