Excellent, we have electricians in to do the wiring for our new heat pumps, and they’re also going to move an old 220V 30A dryer outlet that’s no longer used to the garage, so I’ll be able to charge my #Rivian at better than 1 kW on the 110V, 15A outlet that was previously the only one close enough to the driveway to reach (the garage itself is stupidly not actually accessible to anything larger than a side by side…
Rivian has been promising to make a smaller, more affordable electric SUV that will sit alongside pricier R1T and R1S vehicles. The R2 won’t go into production until 2026, but when it does it will come w/ estimated range of 330 miles, a 0–60mph time of 3 seconds, & a starting price of $45K. We also saw the R3 the R2’s “sibling,” & the R3X, the R3’s performance trim which has a wider stance & smaller crossover shape.
Rivian Hires New Marketing Leader as It Prepares to Unveil First Economy Line
Meta and Amazon veteran joins the EV startup, which will soon take reservations for its key R2 lineup
The first R2 is expected to go on sale in 2026 with a likely price range of $40,000 to $60,000, according to a Rivian spokeswoman, well under the cost of Rivian’s R1T truck.
Amazon's EV company, Rivian, started 5 years ago when they bought a Mitsubishi factory in Illinois. At the old factory workers were union, made $30/hr, and had great benefits. Now, 25 years later, Rivian workers start at $20/hr, have no union, and injuries ran rampant.
Ugh. Yet another extremely slow Electify America charger. Was getting about 140 kW from a nominally 350 kW charger, which then dropped to about 40 kW before I was even to 70%. Ended up switching to a 150 kW charger after another #Rivian charged faster than me from it, and am currently get an improved 66 kW from it…
Drove up to Chama #NewMexico for groceries. Most of the town has no power (so the Loop EV charger is out of commission), and while the grocery store now has power, they appear to have lost all their meat and frozen foods, and most of their produce.
So now I’m in Pagosa Springs, CO for groceries, because it ends up being basically the same driving time as going down to Española.
Even starting with only a 70% SoC, the #Rivian has plenty of range, but there’s also some nice, fast chargers here.
Finally getting the car washed after my road trip to Portland and back, and it looks SOOOO good! Also getting the dents in the tailgate and hood fixed today 😬 #rivian
Very pleased with the #Rivian R1T’s performance in snow, even with the road tires! I suppose the weight and distribution probably help a lot with that.
Welp, my 5am alarm came and went, and I stirred to “wait, why is the heater on? Oh shit! It’s 6:30!” 🙃 So I will definitely be staying the night in Sacramento instead of pushing on to Fresno. But the truck is packed and ready to go, including my e-bike. #rivian
Are there any good apps for finding EV charging stations that are near good places to eat? PlugShare lets you filter for ones near dining, but it’s not easy to actually find ones near GOOD dining… #Rivian#EV
Of the four charging stations listed in Los Alamos, #NewMexico, one didn’t exist, one had four chargers, only three of which worked and were all taken, one ChargePoint one that told me I couldn’t use it right then with no further details, and one that is free, but only charging the #Rivian at about 5 kW…
Very glad we did not run into any situations like this on our road trip!
Day 1 of roadtripping with the #Rivian. Drove from #Baltimore to #Indianapolis, ~600 miles. Followed the built-in navigation’s advice on charging, which I think was a little too conservative. It had us stop 4 times, despite a nominal range of a hair over 400 miles with a full charge. I think it needs a roadtrip mode, or something, that lets you temporarily sacrifice ideal battery conditioning for overall speed, but otherwise it’s a fantastic car for a road trip, and I’m really loving it!
Really I think #Rivian has been very clever in their marketing for their truck.
They are focusing on its use as an "adventure vehicle." Where the multiple motors and great offroading capability matter a lot, and the range matters less. You take it up into the mountains, drive around for a while offroad, and then drive back.
Denver to Breckenridge is only, what, 80 miles? Imminently doable to go wherever you need, do your thing, and come back. Even with a camping trip in the middle.
@snazzyq Any chance you can use your influence with #Rivian to confirm whether the omission of drive gauges for non-perf./non-AT dual motors is intentional?
Buzz on forums is it seems like a bug—tutorial is still there—but reportedly support Staff have said it’s intentional.
(I’ve got an AT model myself, and gauges are here).
