There has been a lot of teeth-gnashing and angst over the fall of #twitter, but from some of the latest news, I think we will have to start thinking about a much bigger problem: the fall of #Google.
@FlockOfCats I search exclusively on DuckDuckGo now. Moved my personal domain from Google workspaces to ICloud custom domain… all of 20 min to do it. Still have and use a Gmail account but access it via Outlook, both desktop and mobile apps.
You can follow from your fedi account but it doesn't differentiate between posts and replies so they all appear in your feed. They should fix that, it'd be nice.
The #Fediverse could have caught on back THEN if you were as welcoming as #Kbin/#Lemmy has been to the #Redditmigration but instead the loudest group was the Mastodon Homeowner's Association.
@ragnell That's why author Romancelandia didn't migrate. There were plenty of people helping folks find an instance, get set up, follow migration hashtags... but it was clear to many that we weren't wanted because ewww self-promotion. Even on the romance server.
Did you leave #Reddit during the #redditMigration? Or are you exploring your options, since Reddit just seems to suck now?
If using #Kbin feels off, you aren't alone. I tried the themes built into it, and the community made styles. I got tired of the bugs I experienced, so I decided to build my own.
Check out my #userstyle for the most popular Kbin instances. As I plan to use this as I continue to use Kbin, I'm pretty sure that I'll keep updating it. Try it out!
Wanted to say a quick welcome to the new Twitter and Reddit refugees out there! Glad to see you folks here! Friendly reminder that the Fediverse isn't advertising-fueled like the other corporate hellscapes we communicate on, and is reliant on the hard work of a volunteer staff. Know things are financially tough, but if you have the extra cash, PLEASE DONATE TO THEM!

Be excellent to each other, and PARTY ON DUDES!

Meanwhile, the related subreddit is in full swing, with lots of activity. It's still got the Lemmy plastered all over it but nobody seems to care.
I saw this coming but not to this extent. I honestly think I have @tchambers to blame at least a little bit, since he's where most of my Fedi news comes from.
Reddit mods fear spam overload as BotDefense leaves “antagonistic” Reddit - BotDefense, which helps removes rogue submission and comment bots from Reddit and which is maintained by volunteer moderators, is said to help moderate 3,650 subreddits. BotDefense's creator told Ars Technica that the team is now quitting over Reddit's "antagonistic actions" toward moderators and developers, with concerning implications for spam moderation on some large subreddits like r/space. #Reddit#RedditMigration#SocialMediahttps://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/07/reddit-mods-fear-spam-overload-as-botdefense-leaves-antagonistic-reddit/
We have made the decision that effective today we will be getting rid of the Kbin instance for #AllThingsTech
We have made this decision for several reasons, 1) Cost is a bit too much at this time, 2) Lack of interest by users 3) Kbin is still in early development and has quite a few issues.
Maybe this will be something we can setup again in the future for everyone.
@LordChaos82@AllThingsTech@kylewritescode I apologize about that. I hate that we're having to do this, but I'd rather do it early on instead of waiting until later.
Kbin just really has a lot of issues still due to being a very young, early in development app.
Again, this is something we might explore doing again in the future when things are a bit better.
@cliffwade@AllThingsTech@kylewritescode I really enjoyed the instance for a few days that I was on it.
If it has to be done, then it has to be done. Thanks for spinning the instance up :)
For people like me who used #Reddit through an app (Apollo in my case) and are looking to replace it with a #Fediverse alternative, things are looking up. Lemmy and Kbin are seeing explosive growth. Although you can follow these from Mastodon, you’ll need to create an account on a Lemmy/Kbin server to get the proper Reddit experience.
I’ve found an app for Lemmy called “Memmy for Lemmy” which is pretty nice. It all works pretty smoothly, recommended.
