Finally made the jump to (from Gmail). Glad to finally have full custom domain support (and privacy is cool too I guess 😉).

@thrickles I’ve loved Proton since I first got it! I’m transitioning my stuff from OneDrive to Proton Drive as I’m pleased with their security and privacy focus. Especially in this current cycle of LLM shilling.

https://proton.me/blog/politicians-exposed-dark-web

An investigation with Constella Intelligence searched the dark web for 2,280 official government email addresses from the British Parliament, European Parliament, and French Parliament.

It found that around 40% had been exposed, along with passwords, birthdates, and more.

Keep in mind, this is not a news story about a data breach or leak, This was a study, to see to what extent various countries politicians have been exposed.

It's only a dumb rumor, but if this goes down we might as well turn off the lights on #gaming as we know it. Especially all the #Linux and #Proton goodness that #Valve has pushed forward.

Rumour claims Microsoft is preparing a $16B offer to acquire Valve | KitGuru

@tallawk OK, you're wrong that ms could "just make a kernel and custom UI" magically materialize tomorrow or even next year, and they're very seriously working on a gaming version of Windows for handheld already, but you're obviously locked in on the idea that they hate Linux so...

> Valve can do the same if the winds change.

They tried that a few years ago with the Steam Machines, which flopped (maybe partly because Proton wasn't ready?), and currently are doing it with the Steam Deck, which seems to be pretty successful.

Funny thing about all this is that Gabe Newell used to work at Microsoft and made lots of money there, which he used to found Valve (which seemed very Windows-focused in their first 10 years or so)

I thought the battery of my ancient phone had finally given out. Battery went from fully charged to empty in a heartbeat.

However app was somehow stuck trying to fetch notifications, so I killed it, thinking this was a battery drain. It likely was.

Along the way I found a real useful feature: Data Saver 😃

After I turned this on my battery lasts for days now, and I don't get superfluous notifications anymore either.

justincroser,

@smallcircles what proton app was it? As I run grapheneOS background tasks and notifications don't work for some of them

smallcircles,

@justincroser the proton mail app.

Edit: the ProtonMail mail app (dunno if just "proton" matches/conflicts with something else).
