Waiting for the Saturday farmer’s market crew to show up. Heavier gloves made a huge difference this morning, I could still feel my fingers when I got here! #BikeTooter#cargobike#carfree#pdxbikes
Daytime Holiday Decorations Ride Saturday at 1pm join #BikeLoudPDX at Irving Park for a casual pace family-friendly #pdxBikes ride to see holiday decorations, including the famous Holiday House on NE Alameda. Mid-ride stop at #Portland's Rose City Golf Course Bar & Grill and then loop back to the start. We'll also look at new and planned bike infrastructure projects and recent greenway improvements along the way and discuss the proposed crossing of Sandy at Hancock.
This will be a bad design with little thought put into how to get people on bikes to and from where they're going and most of the focus on keeping those "pesky rolling pedestrians" (as PBOT sees them) out of the way of cars and buses. PBOT is out over their skis yet again thinking their design will be perfect and ready to cast in stone. #pdxBikes
PBOT is seriously puzzling at how TF they'll get people on #pdxBikes safely from Terwilliger to their SW 4th left-side bike lane abomination off Barbur... Like dude have you tried not spreading your city's assets to cars like this. Why are there trucks in the bike lane on your slides?
Steel Bridge lower deck closure 7am-6pm starting Monday #pdxBikes, thru Friday the 22nd - You can take the upper deck "Bikes May Use Full Lane" or narrow sidewalk, or your next two closest bridges are Broadway and Burnside (via stairs only, if you're on the eastbank esplanade) #PBOT's 3:45pm Friday newsletter 😒
📣 Major victory in our ongoing lawsuit against the City of Portland regarding its failure to comply with Oregon’s landmark #BikeBill. This law, since 1971, requires the inclusion of #transportation for people 🚶+ 🚴 wherever a road is built or rebuilt.
The judge has rejected the City of Portland’s efforts to dismiss this case, and upheld #BikeLoudPDX's "standing" alongside 15 people of #Portland who are impacted by the City’s failures to provide #pdxBikes facilities.
Here are the results of BikeLoud's crash report analysis focusing on the behavioral causes of crashes between #drivers and people on #pdxBikes. This work helps to identify problematic behaviors that often lead to crashes like failing to yield while turning or running a light/stop sign. Most crashes happened during the daytime, clear conditions. #transportation#Portland#VisionZero#BikeTooter
They just need to put in dozens of these #modalFilter things until the people who want to turn left across a busy intersection and drive two blocks to park for free just give up and walk or ride a bike, golf cart maybe... #PBOT#bollards#pdxBikes
Maybe someone well-intentioned once thought we could make Portland into a biking town if we just hyped cycling enough and put some paint on the street. The problem is that the people making #transportation decisions were always people who had no plans to do anything but drive everywhere and park for free, they just wanted other people to ride bikes but didn't know how to achieve that, for lack of empathy, and skill probably, though maybe it was all malice. #pdxBikes
More diverters, faster! PBOT needs to proactively manage car traffic for #Portland to have a connected low-stress bikeway network that provides a convenient & comfortable alternative to driving for families, children, all people. #pdxBikes#ClimateAction
"post-project data showed:
Significant reduction in traffic on the NE Alameda neighborhood greenway.
No significant impacts to nearby local, neighborhood streets.
"Why we don’t take a cue from NYC and use jersey barriers, is beyond me. This constant cycle of the city installing flimsy bollards and drivers plowing through them is madness." #pdxBikes#NaitoParkway
#PBOT once again learning that their kid-glove treatment of drivers isn't working.
