Happy solstice! We’re 3 weeks into #BikeSummer but (solar) summer is just beginning. Check out the solstice-focused #bikeFun happening tonight and tomorrow, including an all-nighter tonight!
The Brooklyn neighborhood has the dubious distinction of being one of Portland's only close-in neighborhoods w/ zero greenway miles. While the 2030 Bike Plan calls for greenways on SE 16th Ave, 9th Ave, and Center St, none of those exist yet — except for 1 block, tomorrow only! (Sat July 22) Walk, roll, or ride on a temporarily-calmed section of 16th Ave anytime noon–8pm:
A man on a bike was killed with a drunk driver here seven years ago next week, and nothing has changed except the paint wearing off. Does #PBOT have no respect for people on #pdxBikes, or do they not know how to do better? #Drivers from Beaverton aren't a force of nature, they're simply a result of choices made by "professional Engineers" (like that lane width 🙄 .) #InducedDemand created by the policy of maintaining extra freeway lanes on our surface streets.
Stay cool out there! The Portland area has a heat advisory for Tue July 4 and Wed July 5. With temperatures in the 90s into the evening, make sure you're drinking plenty of water and cooling off regularly.
Thursday at 6pm! ☀️ Crash Analysis ride to sites of car-on-bike crashes to study how the #infrastructure and traffic plans may have contributed, with the police reports and other data. We will document existing conditions and confirm measurements! 📏 🤓 📐 🚲 📣
bike check / mountain check for the yuba #supercargo with the little #hillTopper#eBikes kit. Rode from Barbur up Terwilliger to downtown, around with the @bikeloudpdx#pdxBikes#eBike policy ride, and back out Barbur from 1st. The battery indicator was red (of blue, green, red) when I got home but it never faded on the long steady climb out Barbur, 10 minutes for 2.5 miles with 200+ft elevation (ODOT, get your cars off of our essential historically-streetcar-graded bikeways)
11:45 Thurs #Portland#pdxBikes#ClimateAction ride/march across Hawthorne Bridge
from Multnomah County Building at 501 SE Hawthorne (after 10:15 board meeting)
wear red, bring kids & grandkids + signs showing your support for policy action and holding big oil accountable

9am tomorrow "join the Steel Bridge Skatepark Coalition at City Hall as we testify in favor of building a welcoming, inclusive, and public downtown #skatepark for skaters of all abilities and backgrounds to enjoy!" #pdxBikes#pdxSkates#skateboarding#Portland#pedalPalooza (Wed, Jun 21)
🚨 STOP ODOT’S BACKROOM HEIST, HELP US RIGHT-SIZE INTERSTATE BRIDGE INVESTMENT
The freeway lobbyists have included a $1 billion allocation of General Obligation Bond funds for the proposed Interstate Bridge Replacement in an amendment to House Bill 5005. This amendment dropped over the holiday weekend, a day before two work session votes on the legislation, the week before session ends. #ORleg#ORpol#NoMoreFreeways#ClimateAction#Portland#pdxBikes
The city is closing about 10 km of streets to vehicle traffic in Northeast #Portland from 11:00 to 16:00 today for the second Parkways event where people can #bike, #walk, or otherwise use the roads without having to worry about cars.
There will be live music, vendors, information, and free basic bike tuneups along the route. I wish I could go, but I’m working today.
