Heatmap reports on the pair of shoebox-sized satellites that comprise PREFIRE (Polar Radiant Energy in the Far-InfraRed Experiment). "The project stands not only to make future climate models more accurate, but could also help shape a new generation of atmospheric exploration."
Even if you don't have kids, if you have Google assistant, tell it to talk to the North Pole. They had fun with that this year! #Christmas#Santa#NorthPole#Music
#FunFact:
Santa's elves don't actually make any toys in their workshop. They make designer furniture, then use the profits from the sales of that to buy actual toys.
This way, they don't have to know anything about electronics or software programming, or predict the latest fads in the toy industry, or have their lawyers work out the patent and copyright laws so they would be able to make cheap knock-offs of big-name products.
Battle of Ink and Ice: A Sensational Story of News Barons, North Pole Explorers, and the Making of Modern Media

I've recently participated to a tourist expedition around Svalbard with Secret Atlas Travel on the R/V Kinfish, to observe the local wildlife and gain a better understanding of how the Arctic regions are affected by climate changes.
I think the reason people feel more comfortable with Santa than God is that they suspect that Santa, though he has a list of those who are bad or good, is lenient and understanding with our foibles. The God we've been taught about . . . does not.
Would be cool to get the diploma flying over the #Northpole someday.
"On 9 March 2022, flight AY073 from #Helsinki to Tokyo Narita departed at 17:30 local time. However, instead of heading east, the flight headed towards the North Pole. With this flight, #Finnair resumed its service to Tokyo Narita, skirting around Russian airspace that closed on 28 February."
Finally had a chance to fly over the #Northpole on Finnair AY42 ICN-HEL, on an #Airbus#A350-900 at around 11900m altitude. Flight distance of ~9300km taking 14 hours, compared to the great circle route of just under 7100km (~10 hours). Very comfortable flight, but I'm slightly disappointed I didn't get the "Northern route diploma" from #Finnair :P
