Slowly over the past few months, I've been working on the @Retcon icon. Here's a WIP shot of a small portion of it, being rendered in Sketch!
(sadly: I'm probably going to have to discard a bunch of the small-scale detail you see there, to make the icon actually legible at normal viewing sizes 🙃 I'm very much still learning)
Hi everyone, I’m back with another kbin icon pack. This time it’s flags for 18 EU countries (the non-fancy ones) + an EU flag. So 38 icons in total. All icons come in two styles: semi-transparent/glassy and opaque metallic. I also made a simple instance logo generator....
Honestly, I’ve been really enjoying making these, probably the most I’ve been excited to model something for months. So I exchanged some sleep for a faster turnaround :) Previous post here...
Since they have such an extensive catalogue I'll do things differently this time, allowing myself more time between the records so that I can catch up with other stuff as well.
I already started with their debut #LostParadise which was to my surprise a Death Metal record. A quite slow one, so I guess that's Death Doom then?
The icon is designed as a hypothetically producible piece of jewelry, except that the corners — those tiny semi-spheres that hold the gems — are a bit larger to accommodate the icon's scale. The piece has a partially open back to allow for more light to reach the gems. That makes them look prettier both in renders and irl....
So I 3D modelled two icons (well, illustrations rather) for the communities that I created on kbin: Industrial Design and Jewelry Design. These icons are meant to reimagine kbin’s logo in a way that's relevant to each community....
I really loved @FixedFun 's idea for the kbin mascot, so I decided to refine it a bit and make some color alternatives. All credit to them for this wonderful idea! I merely refined it. Note, the circles beside the logo are just a color pallete swatch, not actually meant to be apart of the logo....
You may not know bisexual star of stage and screen Tallulah Bankhead by name, but you know her voice. Every time a drag queen rasps "Dahling!", it's an impression of her. #vintage#bi#icon#TallulahBankhead
#Obsidian announced a new #icon for the app today, which they note was developed internally.
I know a lot of hard work goes into branding, and I'm sure many people have contributed to this idea.
For me, as a user and an outsider to their design process, the icon fails to capture the speed, reliability, and magic I associate with Obsidian. I can see a connection between notes and shards or chips ... but I wish I saw more here that evokes the same surprise and delight that Obsidian often does.
Earlier today it clouded over so I slung a pullover around my shoulders to keep slightly warmer.
Went back to the house just now for a tea refill and was told "ooh look at you with your jumper round your shoulders. You look like James Dyson or something."
Needless to say I'm now sitting here slightly colder in a t-shirt.
OC I made some icons for the next icon pack, what do you guys think?
Some more info and the reasoning behind design decisions....
OC Kbinicons Part 3 is here: 19 EU flags in two different styles each + a psd file to generate small instance logos for separate kbin instances

OC New community icon and some behind the scenes screenshots of its 3D model

OC I designed and rendered a couple of icons for the magazines I started, and I’d like to share some behind the scenes images with y'all. I’m also open to doing a few more of these in future.

#1 won by a landslide! Thanks for all the voting and feedback everyone! Now, what is his name? 🤔
Edit: Vote on the poll for a name!...
I refined FixedFun's mascot design for Kbin. Thoughts? Feedback? (More pics/alts in post!)
