🔵Migrating account.🔵 After most of my adult life in South Carolina, I landed in Arizona. 🤔 After a satisfying 6mos on home.social, I landed here because it's closing down. I boosted a few of my old posts, just so as not to be a blank account. As an eclectic poster, I can't promise any exact ratios, but followers will likely see posts to do with:
Slowly ☕️ starting the weekend after an intense week, and my iPad is featuring a memory from Iceland in October 2019 (it gave the photo, I share the video).
I love the happy surprises while driving in Iceland. 😊
I am a bit scared of horses, but they are sooo impressive. 🤎🐴
It takes approx. two hours without forage in a horse's system for their digestive system to turn against them, increasing the risk of ulcers and colic, and causing them discomfort and pain regardless.
They are also designed to graze basically all day.
Yet it is not uncommon to feed #horses, especially in boarding facilities, as few as twice a day. A maximum of 4 times.
Even factoring in that it takes time to digest after eating, one can see how this leads to all sorts of problems.
She rescued the miniature pony last Summer and brought him back to health. They were leaving on their daily six mile walk on mountain backroads when I encountered them and stopped for a chat and picture.
I was walking down a country road, taking photos of an old barn with sheep in its yard. The fence was an old, weathered wooden one, fitting with the barn. I was called out of my thoughts by a thundering sound and a distant person yelling. I looked up and a huge horse was barreling towards me. I had nowhere to dodge, couldn't outrun it, so just watched the amazing thing run. Directly at me. It pulled up a nose's distance from me & I had to look up.

The importance of the Yamnaya in the domestication of #horses is well known, & the latest evidence for the dating comes from skeletal form rather than #DNA, but I find it frustrating when a report refers to genetic evidence without mentioning a single haplogroup. Why? (Hoping to be more accessible to gneral reader?) #archaeology 1/n
Donut Media made a GREAT video measuring how many horsepowers an actual draft horse makes. tl;dr: James Watt very likely underquoted the power a horse makes to oversell the power that his steam engines made.
