I was rummaging through old photos and found this testimony of how I started (and then got hooked on) #VisibleMending. Moths had eaten holes in my favourite jumper. I was furious and swore revenge with a needle. Since I couldn't embroider properly or be accurate, I "needle-painted" yarn moths. Today, everyone thinks the jumper is an expensive designer piece. 🤭
#WIPwednesday • I’m getting close to finishing the left side of the freehand burgundy roiling in the gut area. I did some journaling on how to have more #embroidery time & it paid off! #SciArt#VagusNerve
Discussion of this triggered the memory of my of my lace group friends, who knew of this "lace or needlework" pattern from ~1720. Dated because it's on the back of a deed in #Boston.
une très bonne idée : rebroder des tissus déjà décorés !
cette personne s'inspire de tissus pour leur ajouter des broderies pleines de textures et de perles. c'est magnifique !
I had planned to either warp my loom or work on cutting out fabric for my pants project today, but neither of those would have been fun with a sore back. So I called my mom, did some knitting on my year long project , and finished the bee embroidery instead.
#WIPwednesday • I’m still working on the freehand burgundy roiling in the gut area. I had a less #embroidery time this week bc I watched a bunch of writing webinars. #SciArt#VagusNerve
Honestly, I've been feeling less like embroidery is a thing I want to do and more like it's just that thing I can do when I want to avoid repetitive strain from my other crafts. But I think I'm just really bored of this particular piece?
This is a kit from Cozy Blue, which a lot of people recommended to me, but I think it's not a great fit for me. I apparently max out at around 4 inch diameter of attention span for embroidery. This is a bit too big and repetitive, and unlike the constellation hoop, this one didn't lend itself as well to being divided up into a year long project of smaller pieces. (Though I do think it's taken around a year.)
It is pretty, but I'm so glad there's not much left!
#WIPwednesday • I’m continuing the freehand burgundy in the gut area in perlé thread. I had a bit more #embroidery time this week since I’m recovering from my shingles vaccine. #SciArt#VagusNerve
You get the full piece as well as the detail because people keep asking to see my current work in context!
To reach a greater diversity of students, University of Washington researchers taught high schoolers to code by combining cultural research into various embroidery traditions—such as Mexican, Arab and Japanese—with “computational embroidery.” The method lets users encode embroidery patterns on a computer through an #OpenSource#coding language called #TurtleStitch in which they fit visual blocks together.
The great 2024 #decluttering has turned up this. It’s a washable colouring in map thingy. I’m very tempted to turn it into a small quilt. Maybe with flags around the outside as a border? Could maybe colour in the critters with embroidery? 🤔
