Well, this is quite cool. It would be cooler if Toyota started knocking these out from a proper mass-production factory with Toyota's legendary quality control. They could EASILY sell them at €2,000 (not €6,500) - especially if they cut the stealership out of the loop.
PS I note that the French manufacturer, Douze, is fitting one of the Bafang middrive motors, hmmm, power hacks...
“Today, Persico considers herself a bicycle activist. For those looking to make the switch, or even just for those looking to take more trips locally via bike, Persico said if she can do it, anyone can. At 58 years old with bad arthritis, she said she’s happy to help answer people’s questions and encourage anyone who’s hoping to bike more in the city.” Man, what a great piece. 👏🏻❤️⚡️🚲 https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/SF-electric-bike-savings-16087579.php#EBikes#BikeTooter
Decarbonising freight is critical to decarbonising the transport sector and meeting Australia's climate targets. ClimateWorks report on Delivering freight decarbonisation: Strategies for reducing Australia’s transport emissions.
"Three types of solutions to reduce freight emissions have been set out in this report. First, solutions that make trips shorter or reduce the level of transport activity. Second, solutions that shift freight to lower-emissions modes such as rail or e-cargo-bikes; these also offer major benefits in terms of reducing congestion on Australia’s roads as the freight task grows. Third, decarbonisation solutions can be achieved through improved energy intensity of vehicles and reduced carbon intensity of fuels. Enlisting a suite of solutions in an integrated way, can help Australia reach its emissions targets and also improve other outcomes, such as productivity and impacts on health and liveability" #Freight#TransportEmissions#Ebikes#CargoBikes#Logistics#ClimateSolutions#ClimateCrisis
My oldest will be commuting to community college next year so she'll be taking my car (a plug-in Prius). My wife has been concerned about us possibly getting a third car BUT I think I might have a better solution: an e-bike.
My current job has me a few miles from the house, and I'm currently exploring remote/hybrid possibilities. Anyone with e-bike experience, what should I be looking for in an e-bike? Anything bikes I should consider or stay away from? I'm in the US if that matters.
On today’s episode of “Yes! You can carry that on a cargo bike!”: a 4’x4’ piece of peg board. Pro tip: the child seat really helps (The staff at Dunn Lumber, which doesn’t even have bike racks, thought I was crazy but I proved them wrong) #seabikes#BikeTooter#cycling#seattle#ebike#ebikes
I recommended this bike a while ago, the Cannondale Compact Neo. I take it back; reliability has been awful. Currently on my way back to the shop with it and then I’ll donate it. #EBikes#Cannondale#BikeTooter
HEADLINE: "Concerns grow over safety of e-bikes amid reports of accidents"
We are now entering an era of some amazing pearl clutching over #ebikes.
Of course E-bike accidents are on the rise. More riders=more accidents. Worsened by the fact that drivers are not only used to (but also outright refuse) sharing the road with anyone else, let alone e-bikes.
Any deviation or challenge to car-dominance triggers a super weird victim blaming reflex with headlines like "Teen boy killed in E-bike crash" to describe a teen ebike rider getting hit by a multi-ton cargo van.
ClEArly the BiKe'S FauLT. Fantastic journalism. Call it a day!
You don't suppose stories about EV being little better than fossil fuels for the environment, and stories about lethal, exploding batteries (neither of which are accurate) were generated and disseminated by the fossil fuel industry, do you?
"As #ebikes age, they are quickly turning to electronic waste destined for the scrap yard along with old laptops, tube monitors, and old cell phones. That is something the industry needs to be prepared for. I hope there is regulation that will require companies to support these products for a reasonable period of time."
In 6 days, the NY Times has run 4 articles about e-bikes -- all negative.
A few other stories the paper might consider:
🔹 E-bikes pollute far less than even electric cars
🔹 Compared to autos, e-bikes pose minimal risk to other people
🔹 Unlike cars, e-bikes provide exercise
