What kind of #music did your parents introduce you to?
My parents both introduced me to a lot of different music - cultural tunes, Asian rock & pop, all sorts ofAmerican tunes - we enjoyed family record listening parties in my childhood. My Mom introduced me to #LorettaLynn & I loved this song a lot 😀
The banjo is an American creation from the late 19th and 20th century and closely linked to the development of bluegrass and country music. But, the story of the evolution of the modern banjo illustrates how that instrument has been dismantled from its historical origins. The original banjo dates back centuries to West Africa, where instruments similar to the Senegambian Akonting, a folk lute, have been used for a long time.
I know some of you totally hate all #CountryMusic. I grew up with mostly old timey & some contemporary country music because my Mom enjoyed that & pop music. Dad was more of a blues & rock person. Mom discovered Alan Jackson in early 90s. She loved getting Dad, me & my brothers to dance & sing along to Itty Bitty, at our past annual BBQ Summer backyard bash, before we started yard games fun.
I miss dancing with my Dad - he only danced with Mom & me - his whole life.
🎸 #JasonAldean might have an "I'm not a racist, and 'Try That in a Small Town' ain't about lynching" leg to stand on if he wasn't a homophobe and anti-Biden merchpimp who spent New Year's Eve with Trump just after he broke bread at Mar-a-Lago with white supremacist and anti-Semite, #NickFuentes.
Singer-songwriter Maren Morris says she's leaving country music because of the Trump era: "It just revealed who people really were and that they were proud to be misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic. All these things were being celebrated, and it was weirdly dovetailing with this hyper-masculine branch of country music. I call it butt rock," she told the LA Times in an interview about new EP "The Bridge."
I am a long-time fan of old school #CountryMusic, but not the corporate-style #BroCountry of folks like #JasonAldean. It is sad that #CountryRadio continues to play his hatemongering cliche-ridden crappy pseudomusic.
Of course, thankfully we do have the growing #Americana music format, which I enjoy on stations like #KUSH (1600 Am in Cushing, #Oklahoma) and #KNBT (which I listen to online since it is in #NewBraunfels, #Texas).

Bonus music cut today. Have been doing research into the free Black community in North Carolina in the colonial era. I'm feeling a little wicked so I'm going to throw some country music....yeah...that's right. But don't get twisted Black people sing country too! We do EVERYTHING, even heavy metal! I can't listen to that though. Here's Rissi Palmer's "Seeds." Pay attention to the lyrics. https://youtu.be/xV13ncv15m4
Am exchanging two songs a day with my 15 yr old daughter.
I am sending pre 2000 songs of various styles. Show her what it was like before autotune and drone rap and pop songs all sounding the same. Giving her a bit of an education.
While she is sending me current stuff she likes.
While I have been compiling songs lists, I noticed very few were females. Also what apealed to me growing up might not appeal to her. Then there are probably heaps of great songs from growing up in Australia, that I have forgotten all about.
Waiting for a new tire and (involuntarily) listening to #CountryMusic in the waiting room while I get some work done on my laptop.
I'm noticing something about Country... they talk about Jesus a lot, but the theology is usually atrocious.
One song talks about working hard to get to heaven (Luther has entered the chat, and he is TICKED), and so many songs just casually mention Jesus like He's just another cultural object.
Happy #NewMusic Friday! My new retro country autobiographical ballad "Son, Tell Jesus You're Straight (The Ballad of a Kid Named Ren)" is now available!
It's a song about my dad's efforts to straighten my bi-ass out over the years. Hope you enjoy!
I just did the math, of all of the places I called home, not including my military installations cuz I can't find that population, but it was never huge....6 locations crack 60,000. Jason Aldean, from Macon, GA & Miami, FL....He needs to try math in a small town I guess. FYI, the song sucks, he didn't even write, didn't even help write it, like he didn't even add a single letter to the song. That's my #countrymusic rant for the night. Heard the song numerous times today while riding :/
I have booked travel for a week in the #Nashville area in late March.
Since I'm planning to move there next year, some people have suggested that I should learn more than I could find out from Google Maps and Ken Burns' #CountryMusic documentary
