I groaned (a lot) at the news that Super Mario Bros was headed back to theatres. No... not the one you're probably thinking of. #Nintendo#Cinema#SuperMarioBros
“No other single literary figure—not Shakespeare or Dickens—has been more significant in the evolution of film narrative”

I came across Aubrey Small's Instagram page- Aubrey is a filmmaker and also educates people about little people, their history and visibility.
One particular video caught my attention in which Aubrey explaining how phobia of little people (and many disabled people) is bigotry. Aubrey actually was kind enough to give space to this woman talking about her "phobia" and explaining how representation has created this perception.(1/n)
Now, I think about Twin Peaks and suddenly remember the two little people who had paranormal characteristics, especially the assassin(?) in FWWM.
When I try to explain what it means for something to be Lynchian, I think horror in the mundane, or the whimsical in the ordinary. There's also frequent use of trauma as metaphor.
I've had issues w Lynch's utilisation of women's bodies as sites of violence, as sites of horror, fantasy bcz women are not sites, we're people. (2/n)
🎥 I am actively trying to De-Hollywoodize myself and the #cinema I experience.
Sure I am not making a generality: There are some amazing past and present movies coming from the #USA...
..but:
🇺🇸 A majority of movies I watched before i was 20 were from the US. This formed my entire relationship to Cinema in terms of formats, expectations, emotions, and culture. So I am now trying to bring this ratio down for the rest of my life.
Japanese arthouse distributor Sunny Film prepares the release of "A Boy's Life". After "A Jewish Life" and "A German Life", this documentary tells the story of Daniel Chanoch in Auschwitz and Gunskirchen.
Sunny Film seeks financial support to bring Chanoch, today over 90, to Japan for the release and to fund a DVD box.
Perhaps it’s time to introduce something like smoker/non-smoker compartmentalisation to cinemas?
Show for introverts.
Show for extroverts.
In one show, silence in the audience is mandatory and strictly enforced, in the other, folks can talk loudly, check their phones, munch whatever they want to eat…
Mari Selvaraj, ‘Maamannan’, and the cinema of caste in Tamil Nadu
A new generation of Tamil filmmakers are confronting the caste-glorification films of the past – but controversy is often quick to follow, and Tamil cinema’s history with caste is more complex than many recognise. Karthik Ram Manoharan writes.
Iranian Saeed Roustaee, director of "Leila's Brothers" (2022), has been sentenced to six months in prison because he screened his film at the Cannes festival. He was sentenced for "propaganda of the opposition against the Islamic system".
