We need more of this. Senior devs need to convey to junior devs that mistakes happen to everyone. My favorite interview question is “What’s the worst bug you’ve ever written?” But I seed it with the story of mine which is a doozy (it nuked an IBM RS/6000 workstation we didn’t have the installation media for so my boss had to drive it to the customer’s site 2 hrs away).

Just talked to a woman who wants a referral to an open role at my company. I’m going to help her out. I also promoted her to look again at roles to see if anything else is a match. I reminded her that women often only apply to roles if they are a 90-100% match for the list requirements but men will apply if they match like 50% of the requirements. Be bolder, I said.
