i made a new bot, @internettime, designed to post the internet time every 50 "beats", which occurs 20 times per day.
anyone wondering what "Internet Time" is: it's a decimal time system where the day is divided into 1000 "beats", each 100 decimal seconds long. there are no time zones, so the internet time is the same all across the world. its purpose is to make international timekeeping easier, so instead of saying 8:30PM EST, you can say @104 beats. that way, anyone across the world (provided they're familiar with internet time) can understand without the need to do time zone conversions. read more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swatch_Internet_Time
also, if you want to know the internet time at any given moment, just mention the bot and include the phrase "gimmetime" anywhere in your message and it will reply to you!
i hope someone out there finds this neat timekeeping system as interesting as i do!
I posted a few things today, and suddenly, there are all these "helpful", "curated" #Bot accounts (all on Mastodon dot social) that are instantly boosting and faving my posts.
How can I block that?
I want #NoBot s in my feed. I already block all bots from following me.
Is there a way to block bots (all bots, not piecemeal...) from interacting with my posts?
Checked in the code which drives individual National Weather Service graphics and posts them to Mastodon here. You can adapt this bot to monitor any single image on the Internet and automatically post when it changes. #Mastodon#bot#softwarehttps://github.com/ai6yr/wxstory-single
#Transnistria, a breakaway part of #Moldova, prepares to announce its intention to join #Russia on 28 February. Putin is expected to approve this decision in 29 February, which would be yet another territorial annexation and escalation, this time practically on EU mainland.
If this doesn’t serve a wake up call for Western leaders to significantly increase military support for Ukraine, then I don’t know what will — annexation of East Berlin?
@Valvoline oh wait, you are not even an honest ignorant asshole — just a freshly registered propagandon account with one post. right. not sus at all :-D
Who actually thought that using hashtags in the profile is a good way to express consent or refusal of something?
I definitely wanna add 100 hashtags to my profile just to opt-in or opt-out of various services.
The first thing I do every morning is spending an hour to check if there is some new fedi bot so I can add the appropriate hashtags to my profile :neocat_facepalm:
OK, so I got this close 🤏🏾 to getting @videodreams posting again. It downloads images properly and assembles them into a webm video file. But it seems like Mastodon's updated something because now I'm getting the attached HTTP 422 error when trying to post the file.
Nice to know that the code still works, though! I'll have to come back and figure out how to play nice with Mastodon. #bots
OK, #IFTTT has stopped my #bot (#RSS to Mastodon) and is now asking me for €2.5 to restart it as a "pro". I can't say I'm surprised … but I'm open to any good (and libre) alternative 🤓
In this post I am talking about my Mastodon bots, what they are doing and how do I run them.
And there's one more thing(tm), I am providing a simple Python project that you can use to easily make your own bot on Mastodon. It's suitable for anyone knowing the absolute basics of Python and Linux management.
