So a while back I shared what it takes to land at O'Hare in my little plane, but what about what it takes to get back out? Well it may be a bit more than you might think. For all my #avgeek, #aviation, and #pilot folks:
A few people in the North Bay general aviation community are learning the hard way that, no, really, check NOTAMs before you fly.
Second time in two days a small aircraft has been intercepted by fighter pilots for NORAD to enforce temporary flight restrictions while the President is in the region.
#Perlan is in the air for another altitude record attempt!
They expect to encounter 160 kt winds at altitude. When they are flying at 40-54 kt indicated airspeed at altitude, their true airspeed will be about 350-400kts, and they will have to "crab" strongly into the 160 kt winds to stay in the wave lift they are predicted to find. 🤞
Tonight we were wondering why nobody had identified the flight which caused the UK air traffic control crash so we worked it out. It was FBU (French Bee) 731 from LAX/KLAX to ORY/LFPO.
It passed two waypoints called DVL on its expanded flight plan: Devil's Lake, Wisconsin, US, and Deauville, Normandy, FR (an intermediate on airway UN859).
Bought the girls a couple of light aircraft as Christmas stocking stuffers. Just been out and having heaps of fun with them! Had to wait for the weather to clear up, mainly because we didn’t want to get wet going outside. Highly recommended, and so much cheaper than you think they should be. Grab a couple for your kids if you can afford them, or yourself if you don’t have kids. #avgeek
This map might actually fit under Day 4️⃣: A bad map!
Anyway, I wanted to do something different and see if I can (ab)use the #Wikidata Query Service to render a map. So I created a SPARQL query to display all of the domestic routes flown by PAL Express, Cebu Pacific, and Cebgo, three of the most popular low-cost airlines in the #Philippines 🇵🇭. Each route between two airports are color coded depending on which airline(s) fly the route.
I now have a callsign so I can fly under that instead of using my tail number. Since I have access to 6 different aircraft this could be beneficial for my poor smol brain.
