“I’m making a jousting game.”“Sounds great!”
“With ostriches!”
“Sorry, I thought you said… ostriches. Oh. You did.”
But it was great, with your gigantic bird skittering across platforms, and flying into the air so you could unsportingly whack your opponents in the face. A sequel overcomplicated things and messed up, but the original’s still a blast.
If I had to choose a favorite arcade game soundtrack from the 1980s, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment. It would be "Magical Sound Shower" from Sega's classic 1986 Out Run driving game.
Composed by Hiroshi Kawaguchi using FM synth tech, it's such an uplifting tune. I love it, and it brings back childhood memories of spending more cash than I should have in order to race around in a Ferrari with a blonde bombshell sitting next to me. 😎
A new game by Yu Suzuki?
YES PLEASE! :ablobcatattention:
This seems to be limited to 500 copies for the regular edition and 155 for the limited edition, but ININ will be doing a regular retail release later on, at least in Europe.
I feel like I did '10 games to know me' before on here but I can't find the post, and I've met so many more of you cool people since then. So here's 10, not even sure it's the same 10. Probably close. What are yours?
Wolfenstein 3D
Diablo (1 & 2)
Centipede
Black Widow
Wizodd
Plaque Attack
Felix the Cat
Rogue
Gun Nac
Duke Nukem (1 & 2)
Until now I bought Mini-Consoles/-Systems or Collections on modern consoles and #steam
But this is not satisfying any longer plus: it costs ya!
I would love to have ONE device that can play #games starting from #Atari VCS via 8Bit- & 16Bit up to #mame#arcade games & maybe some home computer stuff.
Is this possible? What would I need (except a Pi, doh).
How do we research the old #arcade and coin-op games?
Let's take a journey into the publications that covered the coin-op industry over the years! From these lifelines, we can learn so much about how the culture of amusement machines affected society across the world.
Driven by Atari demands for new control methods and concepts, and inspired by the contours of miniature golf courses, Mark Cerny’s trackball-based time-attack racer was a frenetic two-player blast. The levels looked gorgeous and were packed full of devious traps. It was a short game – which meant it didn’t stick around long and home ports were iffy – but brilliant while it lasted.
Elsewhere in 1983, Q*Bert was the height of cartoonish gaming, and so Dragon’s Lair was like nothing else around. In reality a set of controls that triggered canned animations on a LaserDisc, the game at the time felt like a living slice of cinema. Its breathtaking visuals made up for the clunky gameplay – and how much it cost to play. These days, not so much, but it still looks fab.
My all-time favorite game is the original arcade version of Centipede. This 1982 commercial is for the Atari 5200 version, but it's epic and really nails the weird, frantic feel of the game.
A jet-powered laser blaster doesn’t sound the safest mode of transport. But it suited this oddball shooter, where you blazed through surreal worlds at breakneck speed, blasting everything that might explode and dodging anything that wouldn’t. End-of-level dragon bosses wowed at the time and still look great now. Funny to think this was once intended to be a realistic military shooter!
Ordered myself a care package with some of my favourite games from France yesterday, with priority shipping, to lift my spirits a bit. 😊
Still quite a bit of pain, but nowhere near the level it has been.
I've also slept for 12 hours last night, so there's that. Medication seems to be doing its thing.
Just waiting for the doctor to to visit today and get a bit more info and see how it's going.
I was in the mood for some arcade gaming yesterday after work, so I started playing some Gun.Smoke, 19XX, GigaWing, Final Fight on Capcom Arcade Stadium.
Then I moved on to Ketsui Deathtiny on PS4, by Cave and M2, which is exclusive to the system.
It's one of the Cave games I'm not actually good at, but I love it nonetheless and the new modes are just brilliant!
The Deathtiny one especially is actually very easy with a tiny hitbox. So much fun!
