If you dig the original kosmische Musik from the 70s (#Can#Kraftwerk#Neu#Harmonia#AmonDuul etc.), this comp of modern Krautrock should tickle your fancy. Volume II is also good stuff.
Last week I was listening to Our Opinions are Correct with @annaleen and @charliejane and there was a reference to The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Going down the rabbit hole I listened to an audiobook of HG Wells' Island of Doctor Moreau (which I enjoyed) and was reminded of this song based on the Wells... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTPVm8gv8fM
Perhaps my last Shirley Jackson audio story for the night, this was a trippy beauty. Jackson's writing is so specific, so descriptive, that it lends itself well to audio. In all the stories I listened to, there is a common theme of travel, of going into the unknown, and a realization of one's precarious existence in the midst of a foreign situation. I highly recommend them all. 🖤 #AmListening#audiostory#ShirleyJackson https://youtu.be/OypmpGEbfp8?si=bLrBTAt1Uc38kfG9
#NowPlaying#AmListening The self-titled debut by The Damage Manual. The first version of this band featured Martin Atkins on drums, the inimitable Chris Connelly on vocals, Jah Wobble on bass, and Geordie Walker (RIP) on guitar. Yes, it sounds just like a gorgeous car crash between PiL, RevCo, and Killing Joke. If it didn't, one would be a little surprised. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmoVIKDlZS8
This is the bio that the movie Oppenheimer was based on. Absolutely fascinating stuff. Going the audiobook route. Narrator Jeff Cummings does a really good job. The paper version runs to about 1100 pages, so the amount of detail is rather more than in the movie, but the story is amazing. And sad.
Finally listening to the backlog of audio dramas in my podcast feed. Actually finished the main White Vault story, now moving to SOLAR, which is off to a grand and dramatic start. #AmListening#AudioDramaSunday#AudioDrama
Because @dgar posted Bloody Well Right by #Supertramp with a comment about songs with great intros, I had to pull up my favourite rock and roll intro, the opening to Sweet Jane on Lou Reed's Rock and Roll Animal. Bloody brilliant. Music could be so good in the 70s (and also so lousy).
"Infinity Guitars" will always be my favorite track of theirs, but their entire discography is just ... a whole thing for my brain. The crunchy, blown-out sound. The driving vibe.
