Happy National Notebook Day.

How many do you own? I’ve have hundreds, going back decades.

Bishopjoey,
@Bishopjoey@writing.exchange avatar

@SergKoren I have dozens going back about 25 years. I have two running at any given time - one for work and one for creative/journaling.

My latest (started this morning) is a JetPens Tomoe River S Kanso Noto Notebook which, alas, has a lot of bleedthrough and the dots are too hard to see first thing in the morning. Generally, once I start a notebook, I see it through.

Bishopjoey,
@Bishopjoey@writing.exchange avatar

@SergKoren Ah - it is indeed ghosting that I experience, not bleedthrough. But it makes writing with my preferred dark inks and medium nibs a bit of a problem.

It's #TuneTuesday and the theme is #MyPreciousMusic - what's your most treasured piece of physical music media.

I've got a lot of CDs and a fair amount of vinyl, but this one just jumped out at me. EN's meditation on World War I that premiered on that war's 100th anniversary is a gorgeous collection. Favourite tracks are Der 1. Weltkrieg (Percussion version) and All of No-Man's Land Is Ours.

Damning review of the new Polanski (not that I'm much interested in his work anymore, but he did make some classics) in euronews...
"It looks cheap, is as funny as running face first into a spinning propeller, and despite the presence of John Cleese, Mickey Rourke, Fanny Ardant and Joaquim de Almeida, there is not a single redeeming quality to be found. I struggle to recall a movie that misses its mark as spectacularly."

Okay, so what's your favourite last line of a book? I head a lot of good first lines, but what's a good last line?

I'm going with, The Willows, by Blackwood: And when I turned my eyes again from his ghastly face to the river, the current had done its work, and the body had been swept away into mid-stream and was already beyond our reach and almost out of sight, turning over and over on the waves like an otter.

@golgaloth Yes I said Yes I will Yes is certainly up there.
Also: But I reckon I got to light out for the Territory ahead of the rest, because Aunt Sally she’s going to adopt me and sivilize me, and I can’t stand it. I been there before.

And: “Yes,” I said. “Isn’t it pretty to think so?”

If you dig the original kosmische Musik from the 70s ( etc.), this comp of modern Krautrock should tickle your fancy. Volume II is also good stuff.

    Last week I was listening to Our Opinions are Correct with @annaleen and @charliejane and there was a reference to The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Can anyone recommend some that will give me and my spouse The Feels™? We watched Maboroshi last night and really enjoyed it, and we're now watching Orange with a plan to move on to Your Lie In April after that if we can still take it. We've also recently enjoyed Toradora!, Violet Evergarden, and Your Name.

    @seanpatrickphd Yeah, pretty much anything Studio Ghibli. Note: The Grave of the Fireflies is painful feels (Hiroshima and Nagasaki are plot points). I'm pretty sure I saw it 25 years ago and have never had the cojones to watch it again.

    That said, Howl's Moving Castle and My Neighbour Totoro are wonderful. I'm still working my way through the rest.

    Is there a place that's not Amaz0n where you can download non-fiction audio books?

    I mean, I might have the tools at my fingertips to search for this myself but I'm just so lazy.

    I've been incrementally watching #hbomberguy's new video and I want to read more #MovieTheory book (or listen to them because I'm lazy)

    #BFI do a range of books critiquing #movies and they're pretty good.

    But me want more.

    @lydiaconwell Librivox is great, but the limitation is that all their audio is public domain, so not necessarily as timely as the stuff you might be looking for.

    This might be a resource for you...
    There are a few books on this page, but the audio takes rather a long time to load.

    #NowPlaying #AmListening The self-titled debut by The Damage Manual. The first version of this band featured Martin Atkins on drums, the inimitable Chris Connelly on vocals, Jah Wobble on bass, and Geordie Walker (RIP) on guitar. Yes, it sounds just like a gorgeous car crash between PiL, RevCo, and Killing Joke. If it didn't, one would be a little surprised.
