This article on colorblindness is re-circulating at work. Really fantastic visuals for those who are not colorblind to better understand the experience. Strongly recommend! https://www.theverge.com/23650428/colorblindness-design-ui-accessibility-wordle #accessibility #a11y

um. how do i change the font size in the developer tools in #Firefox?

Getting tired of squinting, and they don't seem to honor the main font settings, or have one of their own that I could find.

Accessibility isn’t something you add to your product. It is your product.

I think 90% of my job is trying to convey this. If the button isn’t labeled, if the text cannot be seen, if the action cannot be performed, then it may as well not be there for some subset of people. #accessibility #a11y

Even giants in the AT field can get it wrong. Look at all those headings at level 1 on the page. https://blog.bookshare.org/2023/04/what-reading-tools-are-teachers-using-in-their-classrooms/

[Forum Topic] Ethical questions of Speech Central marketing https://www.applevis.com/forum/ios-ipados/ethical-questions-speech-central-marketing

dangero,

From an Android user’s perspective, I quite like Speech Central after using it for only 10 minutes, 1 minut of that time used to set up the app. I’m sorry to hear the developer’s being ghosted like this. Personally, I will recommend this app to anyone looking for a book reading app. #A11y #Accessibility #books

Just dropped on the App Store: #RHVoice for #iOS. For now only #Macedonian and #Albanian languages are supported but it's worth bookmarking/installing this now to follow updates. Again, new linguistic communities have been included to the #Apple ecosystem with high-quality, free-of-charge voices. https://apps.apple.com/pl/app/rhvoice/id6444378148?l=pl #Accessibility #Blind #SpeechSynthesis #TextToSpeech #Languages

Has anyone made contact with the people behind ? I think many people would like to use it, but it has a few unlabelled buttons in the room UI.
I haven’t been able to find any way to contact them but this would be a big hit in the blind community if it were a bit more .

Greetings y'all!

Sadly I wasn't the one who reported about Audon accessibility. The platform I was spreading the word about was with #Misskey.

Here's the #accessibility ticket for that, thanks to the owner of the Misskey instance I'm on.:

Another #Accessibility question relating to iOS (and Android) dev - we've been exploring improving support for Full Keyboard Access on iOS (and equivalent for Android), but the default focus state doesn't offer much contrast. Is there any way to customise this behaviour, e.g. detect when focus is on an element and change how it displays? #iOSDev

I'm working on an #art site with a gallery and full image views.

Some of the image themes warrant content warnings.

We plan a full-text content warning and alternative thumbnail images in the gallery view.

I'm considering a disclosure element (details) for the "full" image (for those who get sent directly to the page).

  1. As always, I have #Accessibility concerns and curiosities about the experience.
  2. As an art consumer, does this seem like a friendly solution?

This may be an unpopular take, but...
I don't think any blind person will ever be completely independent. I do, however, think that every blind person can be self-sufficient. Independence, to me, implies a lack of reliance on anyone/anything. But everyone needs help sometimes. Self-sufficiency, on the other hand, is about having the tools you need, and the ability to get assistance, to go where you need to go/do what you need to do.
Thoughts?

Finally realized I should be using dictation more for inputting text.
Having previously used Chrome "Speech Recognition" API for voice-to-text in websites. I'm both surprised and disappointed that the accuracy of MacOS's built-in dictate feature is noticeably worse than Chrome's.
What happened to the Apple that broke new ground with a revolutionary voice assistant?

On the bright side, this led me to discover Talon Voice for dictation which I am using to dictate this Mastodon post. Talon Voice can do a lot more than just dictation, such as system actions and scripts.
The accuracy of Talon Voice appears to be better than apple dictation.

Day 156. Lots of VoiceOver users may use it with Screen Curtain on. It also helps with privacy and saving battery. And it is my favorite way of testing VoiceOver. Pick a flow in your app. Turn VoiceOver on. Triple tap with three fingers on the screen to enable Screen Curtain. The screen goes off but you can still navigate your device with VoiceOver.

if you create online training, I'm begging you to provide a speed control for videos. the speed that works for me may not work for others. it's a fairly standard option in most video playback libraries and is crucial for #accessibility.

Did you know the #CarpentriesWorkbench raises #a11y of @thecarpentries lessons to the next level? The new layout ensures lesson sites meet or exceed the WCAG AA+ standard, and automated checks empower authors to create more accessible content, like adding alt text to images.

drV,

@deilann

For this post vs is a distinction without a difference IMO.

I think of the two versions as being like the difference between long and short command flags. If you're writing a quick note for yourself absolutely use the short one - it's only you who has to read. If it's a post that will be written once and possibly read by millions probably better to use the more inclusive one even if it takes a bit more effort.
