I don’t glory in “no sleep til dub dub,” but also, for some of us, it’s definitely real. The amount of work at this time of year is truly staggering. It’s one of the things that brought me back to this company. It reminds me of putting on a show (and I guess in some ways it is)…everyone is coming together to create something bigger than the sum of us. It’s exiting! And exhausting! 💜

Today I finished my second day in the role of Director of Software Engineering at Traveler’s Insurance. My primary focus areas are onboarding and mentoring early-in-career engineers and supporting the engineering development experience. I’m SO excited at the potential for making an impact in so many young people’s lives, and for the chance to advocate on behalf of the engineering organization!!

So, Kim's (https://twitter.com/kaydacode) talk today at @DeepDishSwift reminded me of my favorite #accessibility testing shortcut that works on your iOS devices. Screen Curtain! (Also good for saving battery if you're a VO user) This video explains it (and there is also a reply with a transcript!)

Today is the day! I’m excited and honored to be giving the opening keynote @ @DeepDishSwift ! This is the first time in eons that I’ve been genuinely nervous to speak.

This is a new talk for me and a deeply personal one about my own career journey. It’s, in some ways, a talk I wish I could have heard over a decade ago when I felt very lost in this field.

But it’s also a talk about becoming a manager, finding time for art, and recovering from burnout. I hope to see you there!

    Lazy: Does there exist an iOS entitlement that lets apps programmatically control VoiceOver? We want to allow buyers in the Square checkout flow to enable VoiceOver without having to go to Settings.app.

    @kyleve @schwa Ah yeah basically this does not exist but I think it's something there the accessibility folks at apple could be interested in. I'd recommend you reach out to your WWDR evangelist and see if you can get some time with the AX folks to talk about this issue / need.

    Hey Mastodon - I'm doing a little "research" for my upcoming talk with @DeepDishSwift.

    What's some "one line" advice you that resonates with you? Stuff like "do what you love" or "hustle!" or "don't love a your job; it won't love you back" -- what are the one liners that have really suck with you when it comes to work, life, love etc?

    Absolutely exhausted after a full weekend of teaching rope but also really grateful to be working in the aerial community again in the Bay Area!

    Movement balances me out. Helps my brain come back to the office strong on Monday. Makes me feel happier.

    @dxzdb letting go with the top hand in this case is just function; it's no longer needed and the position is easier to convey to the students without it, and yes, the grip changes slightly anyway when going into the next position.

    Apple Watch does not seem to notice falls unless I actually fall off the rope, so it's working great!
