I love walking in a snowy forest! The tranquility and stillness are so peaceful. A couple years ago, I explored Mill Mountain after a heavy snowfall. The trees were beautifully coated with thick layers of snow. Check out my gallery for prints and more.
We’re having a great winter here in #Maryland and it’s 22F / -6C. My type of weather, of course all the buzz today is in Baltimore. I ain’t a #Ravens fan 🐦⬛ but I still wish them luck since they represent the Old Line State. The whole state is gonna stop functioning at 4:30pm ET. 😁 .. of course I’ll be watching while being occupied.
@zebibyte@nfl It's a practically balmy 31F / -1C in #Virginia and I'm using desktops running #BOINC as supplemental heaters because they get the CPUs nice and toasty.
My #Lions don't play until tomorrow. I'm not sure what will happen to the city if they win
A mid-century relic of Virginia’s pedestrian infrastructure, next to the church-gas station, is coming down this summer
"One of Rosslyn’s few remaining skywalks is set to come down as part of an effort to realize a walkable corridor from one end of the neighborhood to the other...demolishing a skywalk over N. Nash Street, near the Arlington Temple United Methodist Church building and Sunoco gas station dubbed “Our Lady of Exxon.”
Stormy skies continued to move across the mountains following a snowstorm on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. The light and shadows were stunning! Witnessing the #BlueRidgeParkway in the aftermath of a #snowstorm is a sight to behold, offering a breathtaking #scenicview that showcases the beauty of #Virginia.
Does anybody know anything about getting #internet run to #rural locations (e.g. farm land) in #Virginia? I just discovered there's an #Equinix datacenter about 15 miles away from my farm in Madison, VA and have no idea where to start for looking into cost for getting a line trenched out to my property.
In the early morning sun of late winter, Mabry Mill shines beautifully with a brilliant reflection of the blue sky, trees, and the mill itself in the calm pond water. You can find prints and more of this stunning scene in my gallery.

June 10, 1983: Unlike the Roan Highlands, the open fields throughout the Mount Rogers area did not seem to be natural balds. In places which hadn't been grazed recently, thick scrub covered the landscape. The predominant features of these landscapes were emerald green spring grasses and medium to light gray boulders and rock outcrops,
@bikepedantic Very familiar with this area! Train service along that route in Virginia is planned to increase quite a bit in the near future and I, for one, can’t wait. The #Virginia commuter rail runs all the way from Spotsylvania to DC, and I understand there might be an agreement with the #Maryland commuter rail that will let you continue all the way to Baltimore without changing trains.
This is #Virginia, home of 1st POTUS Geo. Washington who set the precedent for all things presidential. He'd be ashamed of Trump & horrified by his violation of the peaceful transfer of power.
Report that hunger strike at Red Onion prison in #Virginia is ongoing and expanding: "I just want to pass on some really important information to you all. The Red Onion State Prison hunger strikers are still going strong."
Scenes from tree planting on the mountain in 2023. A steep slope and a riparian area will now be full of native plants. This University Uprooted a Black Neighborhood. Then Its Policies Reduced the Black Presence on Campus.
Black enrollment at Virginia’s Christopher Newport University fell by more than half under longtime president Paul Trible, a former Republican senator who wanted to “offer a private school experience.”
By 2021, only 2.4% of full-time professors were Black.
#VoterSuppression in #Virginia: The Loudoun Electoral Board voted along party lines Dec. 14 to eliminate most in-person early voting days in eastern Loudoun ahead of the 2024 election cycle. The 2-1 vote, with the board’s two Republicans in favor, eliminates weekday voting at the in-person early voting sites in Sterling and South Riding.
