The fact that the Tories think the first week of #Pride is a good time to launch a Transphobic (& Homophobic, as it will impact many cis women whose gender expression is not classically feminine) policy shows exactly why #PrideIsAProtest
@yunod ‘To sum up, Starmer’s Labour Party has been captured by a small, highly determined right-wing clique, one that is as insouciant of Labour’s magnificent history and democratic tradition as it is contemptuous of ethnic minorities. ‘
I think that captures it well, and he amplifies his evidence in the article.
When the election is between a Labour party trying to unseat a Conservative one after what it considers to be its own failed leftwing experiment, that tendency to strip politics of all values ...becomes even more pronounced. The result is that by hewing as close as possible to established economic and cultural norms as set by the Tories in order to win back voters, Labour disfranchises others and makes a calculation that they don’t matter"

"In a system without proportional representation, politics is indeed often the choice of the lesser of two evils. But as the space between the two shrinks, people might begin to feel that – as Ralph Nader once said – “if you always vote for the lesser of two evils, you will always have evil, and you will always have less”.

Of course Sunak and his mates were prepared manipulate markets to make ‘money’ , BUT I want a full account of BOTH parties sponsors. Overseas funds have been playing a large part in British Politics for far too long. So Starmer, why are private health care companies paying you and Streeting so much?
How can a politician, of any party, promise new GP Practices? GPs are on independent contracts and many GP Practices are owned by private companies and are being bought up by corporations (US Corporations).
Politicians are being bought - and selling themselves, wholesale in Westminster. Corrupt and antidemocratic. And of course there will be a price to pay by all of us.
"I was asked to attend a sham 45-minute online meeting via email just hours before my deselection, with three members of the National Executive Committee–one of whom never put his camera on or said a word–and my fate was decided. More than four years’ work thrown in the bin. My connection to my community brushed aside. My deep and utter commitment dismissed. And the desires of thousands in my constituency disregarded"

"My fate was leaked to the press before I found out, and I knew I had to get my side of the story out quickly. One of my first thoughts when I realised this could be the end of my political career was: “Please don’t ruin my life. Don’t make it so I can never get another job again.”
They have made people like me and the political icon Diane Abbott beg and grovel. But I’ve been overwhelmed by support after my Newsnight interview"

I am pleased for Diane Abbott that Starmer felt he had to capitulate. But it is crystal clear the LP is no longer a home for any one with progressive values, and/or concerned about the plight of Palestinians.
The need to constantly check yourself, and humilating apologies, such as Faiza Shaheen yesterday for criticism of Israeli lobbying, when lobbying is a fact of political life (its not a trope when its a fact), so you're not purged. Why stay? #Labour#ukpolitics
So Diane Abbott is free to go forward as a candidate.
Whatever you think of Diane what a wasted 5 months since December which has done harm to the reputation of a party whose election USP is 'we can't do much more than the other lot but we can do it more compassionately'
Delay was a very bad decision. Unable to read the consequences even worse. Not a good omen if competence is to be a USP.
"For a variety of reasons, I'm pretty sure that if I said that I wanted to be in the Labour Party, I wouldn't be allowed in.
Then I thought, that if I really did want to be in the Labour Party, the best route for me would be to join the Tory Party first, and then announce that I was defecting from the Tories to Labour. I'm pretty sure that would work..."
