"My long-term vision for RedReader is to restructure the app to more easily support other sites, including Lemmy" -RedReader
RedReader is a Reddit app with over 100k downloads on the Google Play store
"I think it would be cool to work with some kind of "open forum protocol" which would allow a variety of websites and apps to interoperate with each other through a uniform API."
I would risk a hot-take that Threadiverse today is where Fediverse was in April 2022: some infra exist, some long-established communities are there, and there is now sudden popular interest, stress-testing the network.
There is a new #Kbin app in progress by @hariette with the unfinalized name Kmoon. They are planning #Lemmy support as well! The #fediverse is stronger with the growth of the #threadiverse ecosystem
A problem many have realized is that there are many /tech, /gaming etc. communities in different instances/servers. There is already https://fediverse.observer/ , so I think it wouldn't be too hard to make a service that periodically roams the fediverse, checks for example the last 100,000 submissions of each (or top 100 active...
Apart from running it well and keeping up to date (recent update seems to have gone well, with a nice example of instances and admins helping each other!?), some redditers seek the big instances?? Curious how communities will adapt.
Looks like the #threadiverse has been widely used by the #Lemmy and #Kbin communities for years, but now it's slowly being co-opted (including by #Meta staff) to refer to the #federation of #Threads.
I predict a complete takeover of the #hashtag, and term in general, before the end of 2024.
The fediblock account is stopping operation because mastodon.art retaliated against their parent instance with silencing because of a credible #fediblock report deduplication by @fediblock for .art , until the admin behind the fediblock account steps down from their own instance? And that admin is actually quitting the fediverse? WHAT?!
Mastodon has some wild drama I'll tell you... I'm glad I'm a #threadiverse addict instead.
I just attended the "ActivityPub Based Forums and Threaded Discussions" call, and I really like their work on standardising the way, how forums federate.
Excited to see the work that @julian, @angusmcleod, @rimu, @evan and many others are putting into this initiative and will be following with excitement for the future standardization and interoperability in the #fediverse thru #ActivityPub that will hopefully follow.
It's okay to stay small
Hello everyone. I hope you're doing well today....
