Um. Excuse me. But it is FUCKING WEIRD and concerning that coverage of the loss of basic human rights by the trans and larger LGBTQ+ community is dominated by stuff about brand management of all fucking things.
#Target, who is well known to OutOfExile_IDR - Invisible Disability Rights for acts of #ableism, has now turned it's sights to exclude the #LGBTQIA+ community. If you'd like a t-shirt printed with sayings that force religious beliefs or threaten gun violence, no problem. If you want certain "pride" clothing, Target says, not in our stores.
The retail tyrant... I retail mean giant, announced "it was taking some LGBTQ-themed merchandise off the shelves", citing "anti-LGBT threats". They seem to be making it clear who their preferred "Target market" is. Who will they "Target" next?
Just gave #Target feedback over my app. Their employees don't get paid enough to be in the cross hairs of Karen the fascist terf. There's got to be a solution because it's on corporate to do the right thing by the #LGBTQIA community AND their employees.
Should they hire more security? Give lifetime bans to customers who threaten Target staff?
Whatever they do they need to respect and protect the LGBTQIA community and not let their underpaid employees be shields for their corporate cowardice.
So, for a hate filled 20% of the population, you've damaged your brand to potentially 80% of the country that supports LGBTQ+ rights. Not a smart marketing move on Target's part.
As a friend of many in the LGBTQ+ community, I strongly suggest that you reverse your decision."
Yesterday, I wrote to #Target to tell them that their decision to cave to anti-#LGBTQ bigots by removing some #Pride items from their stores made me feel unsafe shopping with them. Here's Target's response (join the conversation by writing to abuse@target.com):
This exchange also resulted in Target sending me a survey about how likely it would be for me to recommend #Target based on my exchange with their staff. You can imagine my response. Fill their inboxes with complaints about their abandoning the #LGBTQ community when we're in peril. You damn well know the Christofascists would do the same.
[Please don't believe the narrative that pulling merchandise will make employees safer—it will do the opposite and empower Nazis to commit more violence because they learned it works.]
@thomasfuchs#Target June 1st is the beginning of LGBTQ Pride Month. It has been widely reported that you have decided to remove some of your Pride merchandise in response to some complaints from far right groups.
Your decision is cowardly, insensitive, and ignorant. At a time when LGBTQ folks are under attack, you should stand up in support. You should not cower in fear.
We see who you are. As decisions like this are made by corporations like Target, you will be judged. Do the right thing.
#California Gov. #GavinNewsom (D) slammed #Target’s chief executive for pulling #LGBTQ & #Pride Month merch from store shelves after facing backlash & threats of violence from some customers.

@w7voa Thanks, #Target. Now you've shown everyone that intimidation, bullying and threats work. Perfect message! But I'm sure if you slap a rainbow decal on your Twitter profile next week, all is well, right? {{ angry emoji }}
If a corporation backs down to the haters it demonstrates that their alleged support of LGBTQIA+ was pinkwashing.
Time for a full boycott
"Target, which rolled out its Pride Collection at the start of May, is pulling some products from its stores after facing customer backlash, saying it was acting to protect employee safety, the company told Reuters on Tuesday."
I've been reading a lot of about Target and Pride Month. There's outrage about them selling LGBTQ clothing and more outrage about them pulling some of it.
Time to wake up, people. Target is just a soulless corporation trying to cash in on Pride Month with some shit sweatshop merchandise. They met hateful resistance from the fascist crowd and now they're trying to find an out before it affects their bottom line.
A corporation can never be an ally for anything, ever.
I can understand when #Target isn't kicking out every #MAGA-Hat - wearing asshole on sight, but assaulting other customers and/or staff is a red line every business must enforce - period!
