Yesterday, I was reading a thread that asked what's the point of buying a new phone as often as as people do. In the comments there were a variety of answers, but what interested me is that there were a wide variety of answers for how long each person liked to go before upgrading. So I've attempted to come up with justifications...
I hate sounding like the old guy in the room when I say things like "phone design used to be more fun". I mean, I AM the old guy in the room, but I hate SOUNDING like the old guy complaining about new tech.
Frosted gradients. Laser etched glossy. Bold primary color polycarb. Metal and leather. Different form factors and features... Sigh...
I'm as excited about the rumors of improved desktop modes and video out support for the Pixel 8 as the next guy, but we've fielded these kinds of rumors before.
Currently the only phone I have that can run an Android 14 beta, AND has video out, just did this using the desktop mode in Android dev settings.
Which is even more broken than the A13 desktop mode, which was already almost nonfunctional from the A12 mode.
I really WANT Google to give us a Pixel 8 with a proper desktop or tablet large screen mode, but I'm not getting my hopes up until we see the phone in action.

Just sometimes it seriously hangs and occasionally reboots. also probably sooner or later updates will...

Nach den 1. Eindruecken vom Launch: noch nie war ein Android-Phone so "iPhonish" & ich werde wohl wieder das "non Pro" bevorzugen. Der Vorgaenger ist inzwischen ein absoluter Schnapper und kostet auf Ebay unbenutzt unter 400 Euro.

Was mich an der wachsenden Zahl von #Apps für #Mastodon fasziniert, sind die Unterschiede bei der Darstellung der Timeline(s). Selbst ein und derselbe Account sieht da teilweise komplett anders aus und es kann sich sogar lohnen, mehrere Apps im Wechsel zu nutzen.
Besonders ist mir das durch die noch recht junge @rodentapp aufgefallen. Die finde ich total spannend, auch wenn ich noch nicht weiß, ob/wie hilfreich es wirklich ist.

Smartphone Hüllen und Bike Mounts... Hatte Quadlock seit Jahren. Hat mir gute Dienste geleistet. Problem war immer: Montagepunkt finden, der Quarter Turn erlaubt (zwischen Aerobars etc.). Bei Frio habe ich am Smartphone das Problem das ich nicht sehe ob ich einen Beitrag im Stream einen Luke/dislikes verpasst habe. Weder verändert sich die Farbe der Grafik, noch bekomme ich es sonst wie angezeigt. Das hat man erst nach einen Reload der Seite. Das ist mir jetzt schon mit verschiedenen Farbschemata aufgefallen. Und es ist echt kontraproduktiv.
I'm having a real 1st world problem here. What color phone should I get? I know it's stupid but my OCD makes decisions hard. I've had black phones every time, my wife suggested I inject a little color into my life and get one of the bright options. She likes the light green but only because it matches the color of her old Fiat. I like the light blue.

C'est mal foutu le transfert par usb sur #android de nos jours.
On peut plus vraiment déplacer le contenu d'un #smartphone , quand tu fait de gros transferts usb, ça solde souvent par un échec, le débit est trop lent, pourquoi ?!
Du coup en bluetooth quand j'ai des fichiers zip, je renomme en .mp3, et ça se transfert. Parce que curieusement quand ce ne sont pas des fichiers multimédias, l'option bluetooth ne s'affiche pas ?
En renommant, ça trompe et ça fonctionne, on peut envoyer des zip de 300mb en bluetooth tant que c'est renommé en jpg ou mp3.
My #Samsung#smartphone has started to nag me about upgrading the operating system. This upgrade is not in my best interest. It will demand more computing power and make the phone sluggish. I was happy with the original OS it was delivered with. I just want to install the equivalent of Ubuntu on this machine and accept a few high-priority security patches a year, no more.
