These old games.. no map, no quest log. The King, your father gives you one instruction, one sentence: memorize it well! Otherwise you'll be running around in circles like me since last night looking for the location of the second shrine.

Beyond Oasis (1994) North American Version - Genesis
I've moved on, and it gets complicated very quickly. The magic of the old games, and their difficulty. There was no saving back then. We left the console on, and we sometimes found it frozen the next day! Or two days later... lol. :0))

I'm not affiliated with the projects and this is only intended to be of help for people who are looking to get their hands on these elusive and much sought-after pieces of art and engineering.
It's FPGA-based and capable of integrating the ZX Spectrum Next core, as well as a the cores of a number of other retro machines. https://wiki.specnext.dev/ZX-DOS
「 Andrea Cunningham wrote, “Part of Steve wanted to prove to others and to himself that Apple wasn’t just luck”
Jobs felt betrayed by what had happened at Apple and his removal from the levers of power and was determined to ensure that NeXT was run exactly as he felt it should be, with him in complete control and answerable to nobody 」

「 In the end NeXT failed as a business, its computers were only bought in small quantities and its giant automated factory, capable of making thousands of machines a month, frequently was manufacturing fewer than 100. Although its status as a revolutionary system with a strong cool factor was undisputed, few people bought the computers or used the software 」

Every choice of favorite retro computer is correct. No exception - if you have fond memories of a system most people disliked, ignore the haters and enjoy remembering something that mattered to you. Then go find a good emulator.
Our very own Gideon put together this little video of the #Norwich#Amiga Group at #OLL23 recently. It was a brilliant expo and if you missed it, hopefully this gives you a bit of a flavour of what it was like (and you'll get that Xenon 2 music stuck in your head like I was forced to all weekend...).
Here's a wild stab in the dark - does anyone here know anyone who worked at or with QuickShot LTD, formerly Bondwell? They were the company who took over and made QuickShot-branded joysticks and pads in the early 90s when Spectravideo went out of business. I have some research questions about an early PC product they made. Boosts would be super welcome if you think you might have someone in your network in the know.

i adore the level of commitment: github user @raldi just wrote and released bytecode patches for Ultima V, 35 years after its release.
these patches open up broken dialogues and fix conversation bugs, and can be applied using this python script:
Eric Carr recorded a video connecting to the #FujiNet lobby on #Atari8bit, and starting a game of 5 Card Stud. The lobby client takes care of getting the required data from the server, and mounting the correct game from a server. All via appkeys. #retrocomputing#retrogaming.
More parts arrived and the #SixtyClone is nearly completed.
Those zif sockets are great even though they cost me a kidney.
Still missing the RF modulator replacement.
Someone soldered a wrong cartridge connector to the board...did he though?😉 #RetroComputing#retrogaming#Commodore#C64#C64GS
I really enjoyed getting to know the Amiga this past week. I grew up on the Commodore Vic 20 and C64. I live in the United States and didn't have as much exposure to the A500 as my European counterparts. I got to say...a little jealous of not having that in my experience growing up...but now I get to enjoy it all for the first time.
Thanks to all who came out and watched me play on The A500 mini. Hope to get some more time in again soon.
'Historiography of the History of Computing' - is an interesting talk by Doron Swade (who used to be curator of computing at the London Science museum, & drove the rebuild of the Difference Engine). It's really about how we talk about the history of computing, that the 'linear' history a lot of books do (starting in ancient counting and moving forward through babbage and valves and stuff ...) - is a bad idea; as there are separate streams.
This is something of a special blog post. There are several "Computer Chronicles" episodes that have long been missing from the official Internet Archive repository. Recently, one of those lost programs was found at the Stanford University library. It has been digitized and uploaded to the Archive. This March 1984 program hasn't been widely seen in nearly 40 years.
The subject of this first-season program was "software utilities." And two of the guests would go on to be recognizable names in the software industry: Philippe Kahn and Peter Norton.
