We were going to plant lamb's lettuce and winter purslane, but it rained this weekend, so the soil is too wet. Perfect for the harvest of rootcrops though!
This plant gets a lot of hype bc of its dense nutrition, novel flavor and continuous fruiting during warm seasons. But before you consider getting one, most flowers don’t produce fruit and there is scant flesh.
Keep above 45F, fruits from seed in 3 years. Tastes like sweet peanut butter+berry. Will fruit/grow in a large pot.
Four seasons from macro-photos POV, in no particular order. I created this photo set during COVID. We had to find creativity in order to stay sane in this period. #organic#seasons#macrophotography#macrophoto
A beautiful image of home baked organic zucchini bread. Framed with meds that are too expensive and one that I can't even get access to because it's back ordered. With some black metal blaring in the backdrop it's a perfect encapsulation of my life outside of work.
Those of you that grow your own produce, what prompted you to start? Mine was my Dad, memories of him sitting in his greenhouse tending to his plants, and getting me to pick the peas and beans that were growing low down in his allotment when I was little. The wonder of growing food successfully never grows old, the taste of the produce is sublime, and getting to cross things off your supermarket list is a great feeling!! #GrowYourOwn#gardening#organic#tomatoes#nature#HomeGrown
Easy to grow tree, but will get aphids when brought indoors in winter. See AltText for further growing details.
Leaves taste slightly peppery, and are very nice in salads. Can be juiced, cooked and stewed. Also dried, it tastes mildly herbal, tea-like. Can be ground easily into powder for soups and baking.
Not a banana, not a plantain - this is a topocho (at least that's what they're called in Venezuela).
So what do we do with a glut of ripe topochos? Dry them down, of course. Dehydrating fruit is one of the best ways to preserve flavor and nutritional value. Plus, they taste divine. I actually enjoy eating them dried down more than fresh off the plant!
Made pizza sauce from 8 of the lovely tomatoes I harvested yesterday. Enough sauce for about 8 more pizzas. Flavor is incredible. Pizza has #Vegan mozzarella, basil, green olives, red onion, fresh garlic, fresh #organic#garden cherry tomatoes. Two thumbs up here!
Ted, Ralph (both two years old) & Bob (14) eat #Yarrah#Organic & #Vegan dog food (sometimes supplemented by my home cooked food - also organic & vegan) as have all the other dogs in my life, all of whom lived long and happy lives.
From the article:
In terms of nutrients, the UK’s Pet Food Manufacturers Association endorses nutritionally complete vegan diets for dogs, and says that “nutrients that were previously only available from animal-based ingredients can now be made synthetically or be sourced from novel ingredients”.
There are a variety of ways to fulfil nutritional requirements from different sources, and the nutritional guidelines for dog food nutrition from FEDIAF (the European Pet Food Industry) are seen as a gold standard.
Easy to grow tree. Fruits within a few months with cloning. Lots of delicious fruit - the birds agree. Tastes like almond joy candy if it were jammy and didn’t contain HFCS, just cane sugar. Doesn’t tolerate sustained cold temperatures. Bring inside in winter. Water hog. Gets big. Pest resistant.
There’s literally no point in your #meat being #organic and supposedly #CrueltyFree if the poor animal was bludgeoned and electrocuted to death. How in the hell can non-Halal slaughtered meat still have an #SPCA endorsement on it?!? It’s fucking barbaric how these animals are killed. If folks really cared, but still wanted to eat meat (like I do), they’d demand that ALL (non-pork) meat be either #halal or #kosher slaughter. It’s about as humane as it can get.
