46C summer days and ‘supercell’ storms are Britain’s future – and now is our last chance to prepare

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/mar/19/summer-storm-britain-future-tories-labour-climate

We have been warned, time and time again. But ‘Net Zero' is still a political football, mitigation is unfunded. Fossil fuel companies are subsidised and given preferential treatment (electricity prices being set by the cost of gas in the UK for example).

No matter what, we will reach Net Zero. Whether that’s emissions or humans remains to be seen.

“Families across the country are united in their desire for lower bills, cleaner water, and a green and pleasant home that we can leave for our children. Instead of embracing this mainstream majority, Rishi Sunak is willing to give up the fight for lower bills and energy security because he wants to stoke the fires of a culture war.”

Ed Miliband press release ahead of speech on #NetZero tomorrow.

I just wish Starmer and Reeves were fully on board.

UK scheme to spur take-up of heat pumps delayed after gas lobby pressure

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/mar/14/government-delays-scheme-to-spur-take-up-of-heat-pumps-after-pressure-from-gas-lobbyists

The government has delayed by a year its scheme for spurring the take-up of heat pumps, under pressure from the gas boiler industry.

This is an English ‘initiative' I should point out but what they say goes while we have to exist on a refund of some of our taxes.

UK plans to adapt to climate crisis ‘fall far short’ of what is required

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/mar/13/uk-climate-crisis-plans-fall-far-short-of-what-is-required-ccc-says

All the public fuss is about ‘net zero’ - which is essential for resilience, and of course the latest target for climate change dniers. But we need to have something left to protect and mitigation while we achieve resilience is too boring, too expensive and too difficult to think about by many UK politicians.

Here is BBC Verify's scorecard for the UK's progress towards net zero.

Its a mixed picture, with some good progress, while (of course) continuing commitment to fossil fuels is a low point.

Much of this you likely know already but its good to have it all in one place.

Not a technology we can rely on to help us react to climate change in a meaningful way.

#Sunak knows that polling in farming constituencies in England is currently at rock bottom for the #Tories. Labour was reported as being ahead of them in these areas just this week.

So in desperation he attends a farming protest against Welsh Labour. One that peddles conspiracy theories against #NetZero and run by #GBeebies presenter.

Protest and biased broadcasting ok if it supports views of puppet masters of Tufton St it would appear.
