Abstract: For the past four decades, the ‘Secondary Products Revolution’ model, i.e., the exploitation of animal resources that do not involve killing the animal, such as the production of milk and wool and the use of animals for physical labour has been the object of heated discussion between Neolithic scholars. 29/03/2024 - After our brew stop we decided to take the long way back to the start and say hello to Balnagowan Neolithic long cairn and then Craig Ferrar trigpoint before heading back along the old railway line. Just a lovely day out, taken slow. Very few humans but lots of wonderful trees, plants and birds. My sort of day.
Ri Cruin Cairn, all that remains of a structure built some 4,000 years ago as the burial for a single individual and one of the large number of ancient monuments in Kilmartin Glen, north of Lochgilphead in Argyll. These might not look like much, but they're the oldest man-made things I''ve featured so far. They're cup and ring marks carved into rocks on the hills around Cochno on the outskirts of Glasgow. Dating from the Neolithic period between four and six thousand years ago, similar petroglyphs can be along the Celtic fringe of Europe. However, it's not known why they were made.

#Archaeologists in #Catalonia, #Spain, have unearthed human & animal remains & ornamental objects spanning from #Neolithic to #BronzeAge. The #CovaSelsXaragalls cave, located in Vimbodí i Poblet, has unveiled a #prehistoric#BurialSite that dates back from 7,000-3,000 yrs ago. The extended usage of the cave, over an extensive & enduring timeframe, may provide abundant insights into the #evolution of prehistoric society, especially regarding death & burial rituals.
@Vibracobra23 went on the hunt for these Kent UK megaliths on Thursday. Had no idea about them till my daughter found them online. Proved quite hard to find in real life!
Ormaig rock carvings near Kilmartin, Argyll, Scotland, ca. 5000 years old.
Kilmartin Glen is described as #Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscape. There is an incredible concentration of #Neolithic and #BronzeAge rock carvings in and around Kilmartin Glen. The most common motifs are cups, surrounded by up to seven rings, but there are also zig-zags, lines and an unusual horned spiral. #archaeology
One of the three ancient Clava Cairns that stand in a line five miles east of Inverness. Dating back some 4,000 years, they are less well known than their near neighbour Culloden battlefield, but every bit as evocative.
