@saul we’re more of a facilitator for that kind of thing. Weird can help make the initial connection, but the message transmission would be left to any of a number of E2EE messengers we’d defer to (by integration), like #matrix, #signal, #Veilid, #polyproto etc.
Congratulations to @tobias, one of the NeoChat maintainers, and to all the other successful candidates on being elected to the Matrix Governance Board! 🎉
We did it, folks! Matrix has hit a new milestone in its open governance by electing a Governing Board to guide the Foundation and provide more representative and structured input to the evolution of the protocol.
Of course, while seating a Governing Board is a big deal, the hardest work remains ahead of us. I have high hopes for what we will accomplish together! 🚀 https://matrix.org/blog/2024/06/election-results/
Earlier this year, I was invited for an interview to represent the Dutch Green Party in the upcoming EU elections. Unfortunately, I did not make it on the ballot. 🗳
Yesterday, I received the good news yesterday that the community has elected me for the Governing Board of the Matrix Foundation! 🎉 I am very grateful for everyone who voted for me, and I will do my best to help Matrix become the standard protocol for instant communication. ❤️
Just wanted to let #retrogaming know that there's a very small chat that just started recently on Matrix for retrogaming. Would be great to get more people to join up: #rgmng:matrix.org
Alright, I've been thinking. As we know, the default model of conversation on the Fediverse is a tree. Threads are directed graphs, each node is allowed multiple children and only one parent. Kinda like a filesystem. There are also (hash-)tags, but they are a bit meta and work across all conversations.
What if we upgrade it a little bit? What if we allow multiple parents to each node? What if you can reply to multiple posts? I miss this feature because sometimes, when I post something, I get similar replies from different people, and I'm forced to either answer both of them (which sucks, because duplication of effort) or reply to only one and leave all others unanswered, which spawns an offshoot conversation that is basically already over. This way, conversation may feel more like putting out little fires at times. So, instead I can just add all of those in one reply, and add more as they appear.
And it's not that hard to do. Just make in-reply-to a list, not a string.
It’s so difficult (and expensive) to run a #Matrix#Synapse server for my own domain. Is it worth it?
I started out wanting to support Matrix, and I've set up a number of channels for my community on Matrix, but everything happens on Discord and IRC right now, and we have a bridge between Discord and IRC, but we can't bridge to Matrix at the moment, so is it even worth it to keep maintaining a separate Matrix presence?
If not, I’m just gonna shut it down. I don’t want to spend the money.
Those of you who use #Matrix - should I be using the Android app Element, or Element X?
I just want text based comms in the #EMFCamp channel. I'm not fussed about anything else.
The Element website recommends Element. But their GitHub seems to recommend Element X. And, frankly, I don't understand why I'd want one over the other.
Just a few days until the voting period closes in our Governing Board elections!
We're at or near 100% voter turnout in many categories, but Individual Member turnout is much lower. Check your inbox for an email from noreply@opavote.com and cast your ballot today 🗳 https://matrix.org/governing-board/elections/2024/
If you donated to #matrix regularly and over a certain sum, you are eligible to vote in the current foundation board election!
You should have gotten an email from opavote with a link. Make sure you use your chance to vote, if you want to! You may need to check whatever email was connected to your donations.
So evidently Element now has screen sharing and voice chat integrated in an “always on” room. All with encrypted messages. Making a really strong case for me to potentially ditch Revolt. But moving my friends yet again might be impossible #foss#matrix#discord#revolt#element
If this lands on your feed, tell me about different features that are just missing in Matrix.
It can be anything, but please don't include memes like "unable to decrypt message" or other things that are already in the works, or maybe has already been merged (e.g media captions)
Some examples include better forwarded messages, rich profiles, or a live location sharing, just to name a few.
(I am writing something about this, boosts appreciated!)
anyone using #beeper? how do you like it? how's their storage of credentials? that's the only bit that really makes me nervous.
i'm also curious how well #matrix works for it. my general experience with matrix as an end user with "normal" people has been overall terrible, even with great projects like @element
