PLEASE BOOST!

#BCNDP is asking #BritishColumbia what they care about & what should be included in the party’s 2024 election platform.

We have a chance to let them know that #COVID safety, #cleanAir & #immunoInclusivity are #KeyIssues & that this includes #masks in #healthcare. The more people raise similar points, the more likely they are to pay attention.

Complete by midnight, Friday, April 19, 2024.

No one was in the waiting room👍Mom's follow up appointment went well. No new blood work until end of April. I got her blood pressure dosage increased⚕️

Took Mom to see the community gardens & watch rapids at Gorge Park, after her 's appointment - photos to follow.

Now, back home & steaming up some frozen dimsum from Fairways Market. I work 3-7 today.

This I want to say sorry. I’m sorry to everyone who’s joined the ranks of the chronically ill & disabled because our leaders, public health and fellow citizens refuse to take Covid seriously.

Those of us who were disabled before the pandemic could see this wave of chronic illness coming - and many of us have been screaming from the top of our lungs the last 4 years. Begging people not to take their health for granted & to wear a mask and protect themselves. Warning them that there are no do-overs once you become chronically ill.

Unfortunately very few people are listening - and many won’t understand the true devastation of until it directly impacts them. At which point it’ll be too late.

Despite seeing these waves of disability as an inevitable consequence of “let er rip” Covid strategy - one thing I did not see coming was how many people would willingly embrace not only ableism - but full on eugenics.

People in my own life who were previously kind & supportive have become cruel and angry. The masks have been ripped off. They don’t hesitate to tell me that they blame me for the restrictions placed on them in the early days of Covid - and that they will never again allow their freedoms to be infringed on in the name of protecting the vulnerable. One even went as far as to say “you’ve been sick for years - just die already.”

People who say these things don’t understand what disabled people understand all too well - your health is not a permanent state. Everyone will become disabled eventually…. Some of us earlier than others. Also many people who think they’re invulnerable are already vulnerable and don’t even know it.

Yet rather than adapting behaviour and pushing for a new normal that makes the world safe for everyone - most temporarily abled people have instead doubled down on hateful eugenics talking points and want us to stay home forever (or worse - die). It needs to stop.

Covid is airborne and we all share the air. “You do you” individualism is quite literally killing people. We need to start caring about the air we share as this will lead to a healthier society for everyone. Until then we need to mask up. It’s not hard, it’s incredibly effective & it might save someone’s life.

If you want to read more about the “friend” who told me I should “just die already”… I wrote about it & the behaviour changes I’ve noticed throughout the pandemic here: https://disabledginger.substack.com/p/just-die-already

Senator Mike Braun of Indiana wants to ban mask mandates. He's not alone.

Mask mandates should have long predated #COVID in healthcare. We virtually eliminated flu with Covid precautions. Nosocomial Covid infections have exploded since mask mandates in healthcare ended.

The mistake was lifting mask mandates in healthcare.

Get politics OUT of health.

Them: Get covid everyone, it’s fine🤡
Covid: literally decreasing your brain functions if it doesn’t murder you 🦠
Them: now... believe me this minority is out to get you, there’s no such thing as faxts [insert new conspiracy here]

...repeat until???

I actually find the facts kinda helpful 🙃

An immunocompromised person in my family got COVID for the first time, AT THE HOSPITAL because they stopped requiring ANY PRECAUTIONS. No masks, no nothing.

They can't avoid the hospital so that means they'll just have to roll the dice each time they go?

What a cruel world.

Immunocompromised means the vaccine doesn't work as well. So what the current US policy says is equivalent to "you're on your own" good luck! 😡😡😡

@timnitGebru I completely empathize. I am fighting against mask mandate removals in the Medical Industrial Complex in Oregon. My disabled child is considered medically fragile, upper airway restriction, and cannot safely mask. It is a direct ADA violation for medical facilities to deny safe access to life saving medical supports. Yet the MIC continues to support eugenics processes. We must fight for the survival of disabled folx. #covid #MasksSaveLives #ada #MaskUp

PSA: I’m fully vaxed and bosted. I wear an #N95 mask when I go out in public.

The mask annoys my family.

Yet so far, I don’t have #COVID.

Even though, last week, my entire immediate family (3) got it!

So now the N95 stays on at home, even while I sleep in a separate, well-ventilated room.

And 6 days in, I STILL don’t have COVID.

I’m not bragging. I’m sad.

COVID is easy to catch. But it’s also pretty easy to NOT catch.

To stay safe, all you have to do is take it seriously.

Please?

bok_bok_ba_gok,

@iDGS This is really helpful info to share, especially to Americans as the misinfo here has been tremendous. Thought I would add: some people have easier-to-mask-well faces than others, and a poorly fitting even N95 mask can expose people. 3M Auras fit MOST people really well and are comfy. It's too bad health depts aren't offering mask fit sessions for the public who'd like to mask. #MasksSaveLives #MasksWork
