:book_open: #BuchBubble#lesen@buchstodon#MarthaWells
I'm really enjoying The #MurderbotDiaries series by #MarthaWells. They're about a Security Android that gains sentience, names itself Murderbot, & keeps its sentience a secret as it only wants to watch soap operas while staying out of the human affairs that it keeps getting dragged into.
I'm reading book 2, Artificial Condition, & I already like it better than the 1st book in the series. This one has a better sense of its dark humor than the first which I find endearing.
Originally written in 2013, this meta novella asks the author to choose between Magic and Literature. Are the two, in fact, the same? Or is Magic a transcendence of Literature? A quick, fun read that’s sitting with me the more I turn it over in my head.
It’s been long enough between books that I looked up a recap of where we last left Murberbot. Glad I did, because then I was able to just enjoy this one. It’s more of the same, which is what it’s felt like for a while with Murderbot, but that’s OK! Very incremental character development on their part, but the character is interesting enough that I’m happy to spend more time with them.
Stoked to have grabbed an on-sale copy of #MarthaWells’ City of Bones from Amazon this morning. After finishing Witch King (loved!), was searching around for recommendations when someone mentioned this one.
The sci-fi drama, based on #MarthaWells’ bestselling book series, centers on a self-hacking security android (Skarsgård) who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable “clients.”
“‘I don’t know if I can do what you want me to do, Bashara. If I can stay calm and always think ahead, like you do. I’m so angry I could burn the world.’
Bashara didn’t seem concerned. ‘Unfortunately, someone else has already burned it. We need to unburn it.’ He looked up, his expression serious. ‘Will you help me do that, Kai?’” — Martha Wells, Witch King
I'm now reading Martha Wells' 5th story in the Murderbot Diaries speculative fiction series. This book, "Network Effects," won a Hugo Award for best novel. The main character Sec Unit is such a wiseass! I am forcing myself to put it down between chapters to make it last, but my bookmark is inexorably moving towards the back of the book. Smiles plus adventure! #bookstodon#books#Murderbot#MarthaWells#ScienceFiction#Fiction
Witch King by @marthawells was fantastic, as expected. So nice to get a satisfying standalone fantasy novel but.... would also love to spend more time with these characters. A lot of world left unexplored.
This the first really nice balcony day of the season. At least that I've been home for. Enjoying a coffee, and listening to "Network Effect" by Martha Wells 😊
Also, I keep laughing at the nickname of the AI of the space ship the protagonist is on: "Art" for "Asshole research transport". They don't quite get along 😄
