I wonder if 20 years of cramming "#hackers" into every story that involves computers being broken (or broken into) has anything to do with #Canada banning #FlipperZero? :thaenkin:
Surely, media focusing every such story, for decades, on some nebulous "hackers" instead of on companies who could not be bothered to secure their stuff properly in no way affected the public perception of who's to blame. :blobcatcoffee:
But please, do tell me how we should not fight for this term anymore. 🙄
It really bothers me how even the techies and hacker types not just give up on this — but spend their energy arguing against pushing back against the h-word abuse.
Even when it so blatantly and so directly hurts them, as with the #FlipperZero case.
I mean, thanks #LinusTechTips for helping make Flipper Zero bans a thing, by way of clickbaity videos. Well done. Got your clicks, I hope!
Good job, The Guardian. I would never have heard about this if it weren’t for you taking it down, and now I’m actually in the position of looking at something Osama Bin Laden wrote and saying, “Well, he’s not wrong….”
Does no one teach kids about The Streisand Effect any more?
Wil eigenlijk een paar dingen van LTTstore.com bestellen. Maar zie nu tijdens de WAN show dat er nog best wel leuke dingen aan komen..... wacht ik af of bestel ik... #LTT#Shopping#Merch#LinusTechTips#LTTstorr
Personally, I do like the fact that #ServeTheHome isn't just doing #HardwarePorn like #LinusTechTips but also looking at more affordable and reasonable options.
#ReUse & #UseLonger are not only cheaper but also more envoirmentally friendly, and from my personal experience, getting some relatively-new #ThinClient that may even be #fanless is a cheao, easy and useful starting point for a #MiniServer...
Linux Tech Tips was accused of having a toxic work place where several past employees supported 1 employee who experienced sexual harassment. In your last video, you acknowledged this fact, said you were looking into it, and now in your update "plan" you do not acknowledge it or apologize. Worse, you double-down on how great you believe your HR Department is. Clearly, that is not the case.
I've never worked for Linus Tech Tips, and have only ever been a viewer & worked for a sponsor (NDA, no comment), but I am disgusted
I am not going to watch Linus Tech Tips anymore. All they ever do is double-down, triple-down, and push out PR statements of so-called change, while doubling-down
I wanted to see LTT to make this right. I wanted to see them prove they can be successful. They have not done this
Sexual harassment swept under the rug is bad business
I have nothing else to say... I am truly, genuinely disgusted.
I feel sorry for Former Linus Tech Tips social media manager Madison Reeve. My heart goes out to her. I know what it is like to have previously experienced a toxic work place. I doubt she will ever receive that apology or official recognition. Companies like this never see the wrongs they do not wish to see.
I thank her past co-workers who came forward to support her and did acknowledge Madison Reeve.
The biggest thing that gets me about this #LinusMediaGroup thing is how bad must the working conditions be where someone felt they needed to record an HR meeting the day after Madison left. Seriously. The person who recorded this meeting must have known SOMETHING about Madison and her situation, or was experiencing the same.
In all my years of working for companies big and small, I have never felt the need to secretly record any meeting, let alone an HR meeting.
You know what else I haven't felt the need to do? Tell an inappropriate joke after an HR meeting.
I am a straight man, born man, who has always identified as male (biologically, mentally, and emotionally), who likes women, but that does not mean I need to be a woman or a member of the LGBTQ+ community to want people to have equality, including equal rights and treatment and opportunities too.
It is called being a human being. Something does not need to directly impact me or affect me, for me to have empathy, sympathy, and compassion toward others.
@rail Colin Worobetz, former writer at Linus Media Group, has also chimed in regarding Madison Reeve’s allegations, claiming the following on his Reddit account.
“…the story as she’s told it in the posts today is as I remember it back then.”
@joel@error420@rail However, I would suggest you review Forbes Magazine which current has a headline about this and more concerning, Linus Tech Tips, titled:
"YouTube Channel Linus Tech Tips’ Inaccuracies And Sexual Harassment Allegations, Explained"
It should go without saying, the occasional appearance of your spouse or other co-workers spouses appearing as your only long-term female cast members in your YouTube videos, of your large corporation, does not exactly count toward presenting yourself as an equal opportunity company.
It also does not do you well that the 1 transgender employee you have (Anthony / Emily) has been publically missing in action since coming out.
No, I do not think this looks good for LTT at all.
